Re: Besides Lever guns what does everyone enjoy?
That's some really nice toys you have there.....don't know much about the cars but the John Deere really stands out and is clllllllleeeeeeaaaaaannnnn. Used to play with muscle cars from the late sixties '68 Firebird and a '69 Camaro , but these things are like horses.......they eat your money up real fast with little return. My wife's return on her horses are a big pile of brown stuff out in the pasture.
My guns keep me more than busy...besides antique Winchester, Marlin and Savage leverguns, I collect and shoot 1st, 2nd., and 3rd. gen. single action Colts, early Rugers, pre war large frame double action Colts and Smiths, WW 2 bolt and semis and a mess of those AR's. Loading, casting, shooting, competing, and working on these guns takes up my entire day...and I'm retired. -----6
I got 3 Jeep wranglers.......once these things are paid for, they don't cost much to keep on the road.

Gardening (vegetable), planting and maintaining wild bird habitat, and wildflower photography. Thankfully none are expensive hobbies.

'55 Chevy sedan, '55-½ Chevy P/U, '91 Camaro RS (none are quite stock). The p/u is in pieces, but I have almost everything I need, just want stainless bed strips, and some color... and a few months uninterrupted time to assemble. The Camaro is in need of an engine. This work gig interferes greatly!
Bullet casting for leverguns, single shots and single actions as well as some other gun types. Cowboy Action, Wild Bunch, black powder silhouette, and 3-gun when I get a chance.
Hunting has taken a back seat in recent years... saving for a trip to New Zealand has curtailed some other activities... And, there's always daydreaming to take up any spare time!

For fun it has to be shooting, fishing and hunting.
For money it's custom wood work, furniture, trim.
I think one of the most fun and enjoyable things has been raising 2 litters of Lab puppies!
I'd love to do more gun work but if I had a lathe and a mill I'd never leave home!

Between shooting, casting, and reloading, I don't have time for anything else.
I do occasionally manage to go fishing, but it's pretty rare.

Re: Besides Lever guns what does everyone enjoy?
Besides guns and shooting of all sorts, we run the Jeep quite a bit. We do a lot of trails and wheeling all over the state. Come fall, the hard top goes on and it gets outfitted for bird season. Wife and I like to ride old trails and woods roads for partridge.
Nice days in the summer, we take the Harley for rides.
I also spend a lot of time hunting, fishing, and ice fishing with my dad and sons.

Being half Italian, I'm usually a little slow on observations. It has taken me quite a few years to realize what most all gun guys have in common.........they need excitement in their lives....good excitement...not the kind you find in bars, drugs, women, or illicit activity.
The lone exception to that is Old Savage.....this guy has more girlfriends than Carter has liver pills. Ha! He wants us to think his other pastime is golf!!!!
Gun guys, in addition to guns, like cool cars/Jeeps/trucks/motorcycles.......anything with an engine...snowmobiles....four wheelers......
We are a self sufficient group, rarely asking for handouts or help. I seldom see money as a priority in their lives.....enough to live comfortable and a secret stash for that elusive Winchester or Colt that may come our way.--------6

Rides like a Cadillac....push button everything.....great gas mileage....high teens around town......lots of interior room......it's a 2011 and just turned over 20k.....we love it and so does she! .......my 2005 Rubicon just turned over 40k....and that stays in the garage...under cover......yea....we stay at home a lot....
"Old Yeller", my old 1989 Islander was taken off the road the day I retired and safely put in the barn...under cover....still runs and looks like a champ with 170K. The Kubota cuts the grass and plows the snow but it's really nothing more than another toy I play with----6

6,
That's a 44-40 and I sold it but I have a nicer one in 41 Long Colt. Got the bullet mold and 100 pieces of brass so I can shoot it. It's amazing how accurate it is with those "Minie" type bullets. I use Red Dot to make them expand quickly.

Re: Besides Lever guns what does everyone enjoy?
I'm a fan of almost any old gun, but my favorites are old single shot rifles, especially Marlin Ballards, and late 1800's schuetzen rifles. I collect old ammo, and also old shooting accessories and tools too. Do some gun restoration and repairs, as my skills and tools allow also.
I also have owned and built a lot of hotrods over the last 50 years, both for myself and friends. I currently have three old hotrods; a pre WWII Austin sedan, a '63 Falcon Futura, and a '69 Chevy Suburban. Working on a couple others for friends, and hoping to finish the Falcon this year for myself. It's been driven for the last couple years, but I'd like to finish the paint and interior work this spring.
My daily driver:
This is a '69 Nova I did the drivetrain and suspension on for a buddy:
Love to fish and hunt also, although don't get to do as much as I'd like to, or thought I could when I retired!
And in my spare time I have restored and remodeled our old 1948 home. I like keeping busy

Marlinman....cool machines dude.....what's in the falcon?
MM,
I had an 1877 in 41 but some guy offered me big bucks for it so down the road it went. As the Lightning is weaker than the single action, I could not get the open bases to open up with Bullseye ....had to be real conservative on that gun...was like new with rosewood grips......so I used black which worked great.
On your 41 you can just swap out the cylinder with a 38-40.....everything else is the same.---6

My favorite pastime is shooting metallic silhouette. I shoot over a dozen disciplines from smallbore to leverguns to high power rifle and black powder cartridge rifle.
I also enjoy hunting and fishing, and I especially enjoy driving my collector cars. My show car is a bone stock 1955 Chevrolet Nomad which I finished restoring in 1994. My daily driver is a 1967 Camaro coupe which is modified with a 350 h.p. small block:

Sixgun, being a Chevy guy, I put a .040" over 4 bolt main 454 (464c.i.) Chevy, with Edelbrock heads in the Falcon. It's backed by a Super T10 4 speed, and an 8.8" Ford rear with 3.73 Posi. Fun to drive, but not very economical on gas with the twin 600 cfm Holleys, and a monster cam.Sixgun wrote:Marlinman....cool machines dude.....what's in the falcon?

Look at that boy of mine........chip off the old block....outspoken with a super cool T-shirt.....just like the one I have....or used to have.......he was here last month. The difference between him and I is that he makes more money and has a Harley......something I can't have.....long story but to put it quickly, if I had a Harley, I'd be building ramps to see how far in the air I could put it or opening it up on a long dark road with lots of deer lurking.
Then he has to get an orange truck because he could not find an orange Jeep...like mine.
And that gun......Where did you get that? Bad boy you are.....suppressor, short barrel, huge magazine. Always has to out do the old man....but......you ain't got a BAR!!----Yo papa

Re: Besides Lever guns what does everyone enjoy?
I raced 1/4 mile drags for many years, but quit back in 1989. When I built these two cars it was mostly for the street, but run them once a year at nostalgia events. Those are all 1/8 mile, so times are quicker for the shorter distance. Both cars run high 7 second times at around 100 mph in the 1/8th. The Falcon could be quicker if the driver could shift quicker. The Austin has a 355 SBC with a manual shift TH350, and narrowed Pontiac rear axle with the same 3.73 posi. Being lighter, it tends to not hook as well, but is still as fast. The Falcon hooks hard for a small car, and launches wheels up most the time. It could be faster with an automatic, but wouldn't be nearly as much fun as shifting gears! First time I took it to the strip I had my street cheater slicks on it, which I found wont hook on the strip. It spun the tires in every gear, the length of the track. Impressive to the crowd, but irritating to me. The next year I slipped on a pair of wrinkle walls, with rim locks, and it cut over 1.5 sec. off my 1/8 mile times. Just a little spin at launch, and it hooks. Funny thing is the Hurst cheater slicks hook perfectly on the street. No idea why they don't work on a prepped track?Sixgun wrote:Thanks Marlinman...I understand it all......what's the times......10-5 s'

Six, nice Kubota. Which model is that? My neighbor has a B21 with a backhoe and loader I have used a time or two. My old (39years old) John Deere 311 A is still digging but I believe it's time to rotate my stock.
This is plagiarized from someone else, but I love it!

Non firearm hobby's would be fishing on the ice and open water. I still ride a bike once in a while, 1985 FXRS. Grow all sorts garden items. Traditional archery is most enjoyable also.

B3350 diesel with the turbo...powerful bugger. What I don't like about it is this fed regulation bs. It's a tank under the hood that collects exhaust particles and every 10-15 hours this stupid light comes on to burn the particles out out and once the light comes on you have to keep it running for the half hour it takes to turn off. That means if I near done working with it....like last week....I have to keep the rpms high and let it run until the light goes out. Obama BS. The dealer told me that next year the smaller tractors are getting it----6
