Quick Rebar Target Stands

Post by rbertalotto »

Needed a few practice targets for my wife and I to practice with.

Went to the steel supply house and wanted A550 but they had a truck load of HR450 which is almost as hard, but a whole lot less $$.

Four pieces of 3/8 X 16" X 16" was a bit under $150

Four 10' pieces of #5 (5/8") rebar a few big washers and a bit of welding and heat bending and they came out pretty good!

I like that design! But it sparked a thought (dangerous!) in my mind. If that center leg/upright was able to slip in and be secured with a thumb screw or bolt, they could become portable, and easy to transport anywhere you might want to use them!

I was going to do just that to make them more portable. But then I decided it wasn't necessary as I just toss them in the back of the pickup and drive the two miles to the range.
My wife just started shouting CAS and yesterday we shot ver 400 rounds in practice. This morning I ordered a much larger tumbler!

Those look good. As marlinman suggested, instead of welding the legs to the loop, could they just slide thru, and still maintain position?

And a suggestion of my own: Put a "T" in the shape of a slight "U"- on the upright behind and near the top of the target... it'll keep the target from turning quite so much, keeping the face square to the firing line.

how well does 450 hold up to rifle rounds?
