A few projects
I'm finally about to get a few jobs completed. Had a rough start this year losing Mom and getting some virus myself that still is hanging on. Should of had these done weeks ago but had more important things to take care of. The rifle and axe still aren't complete. The rifle needs some metal finish and several coats of oil on the stock still. All that's left on the axe is a few coats of oil. The two brass tubes are adjustable powder measures that I made up and a small knife with a blade just short of four inches.

Good morning
That is nice work !
When you have an opportunity could you share the particulars on the barrel and lock. Those items are interesting.

Re: A few projects
WOW, you must have been first in line when talent was handed out. Really beautiful workmanship and artistry combined.
If more men loved and cherished their wives as much as I love bacon the world would be a much better place.
Re: A few projects
Brilliant. That is just brilliant work.
I wish I could just have 10% of the talent needed to do work like that.
Since late last year I have not been on site much so I just wanted to say that I am sorry to hear of the loss of your Mum (Australian spelling)
Pop.

Re: A few projects
Thanks Pops.
The barrel is a 44" Rice "B" weight swamped barrel in .50 caliber. The "B" has to do with the diameter of the barrel and the "B" happens to be 1" at the breech. Don't know off the top of my head what the waist and muzzle measurements are. This barrel profile makes for a nice light rifle that's nice for carrying if you do lots of walking while hunting. The lock is a late Ketland from Jim Chambers that I reshaped some. The set triggers started life as Davis triggers, then I tossed both triggers and made new ones. Its quicker to use the production trigger plate and springs than making the whole thing myself. All the other parts I made in the shop using sterling silver for accents.

Thanks Pete she is missed by many.
Yep I made the hawk also. It has a wrought iron head with a 1084 carbon steel cutting edge. Its one of my fancy axes not really intended for use. The originals I've seen made like this were all presentation pieces.

Your work is just beautiful. Thanks for sharing it. Also, sorry for the loss of your mother. I lost mine almost two years ago.
This is plagiarized from someone else, but I love it!

I didn't become one later in life.

Condolences on your mother's passing
I too have been fighting the "viral crud". Three rounds of antibiotics and two rounds of steroids for the other crud that it helps you get. No fun at all.
Your work is simply stunning. I can't imagine what it would look like it your felt good!!!

Re: A few projects
Very nice which "school" does your rifle follow ? The patch box makes me wanna think "John Jacob Scheetz" is that correct or is it one of the schools from PA ?
A few years back I had three Contemporary flint longrifles and I never used any of them to kill a deer before letting them go . Seeing this gun has me thinking along those lines again !
My next door neighbor has the 54 cal Isaac Haines I had I may try and get that one back . The gun was originally built by the brother in law of the guy that owns Getz barrels , after I bought it I had Clay Smith of Colonial Williamsburg fame put a sliding patchbox on it and later had Al Edge make the flashole a little better with a hotshot bushing .
Kinda like to take a deer with that one or one similar and possibly another deer with a contemporary Hawken of 54 cal .

6pt, the patch box is from an early Jacob Young rifle that was made for William Whitley. Jacob worked in the Cumberland area of Tennessee and Kentucky.
Quality locks and the vent liner design and position are what make a flintlock shoot fast and reliable. I've take several does with my flinters but still haven't shot a buck maybe that will change.

Hondo, sorry for your loss and hope that you are feeling better yourself.
Onto the selfish reason for the post, do you have a website that shows your work and what you can all do? I'm curious and would love to have some work done as I really like your work.
Thanks in advance.
