A successful hunt

It was early in the morning, the sun yet to rise. As I groped for the light switch in the garage I heard the unmistakeable sound of the trap crushing it's prey. After the lights were on, I saw the trap, empty. The sinister varmint had yet again slipped away from the spring loaded death grip I had laid for him. This would make 3 days in a row he would foil my plan to preserve my dog food for the canine and not the field dwelling rodents. I opened the garage doors hoping the Houdini like mouse would return to his grassy homeland, but alas, I spotted him in the corner, looking desperate for an escape. I reached behind the door and found my Stoeger, confident in my abilities with it now, and eased up on my prey. His keen senses warned him of his impending doom, and he made a run for the open door as I approached. But then something, maybe something divine, stopped him just as he made it to the driveway, and gave me a split second to end our fued once and for all. When the crosshairs found hair, I let the pellet fly. The shot felt good, and sure enough, it flew straight and true. Death was instant for the slippery mouse, and my victory was achieved at last.

Atta Boy Ted...Lucky He didn't turn and charge things could have ended a lot differently Good Shot.

After I caped him out for the taxidermist, I hung the meat in the cooler to cure for a couple days.

Not trying to take away that great shot Ted but I too once killed a mouse with an air pistol. It was at an indoor airgun silhouette match which was fired on the bottom floor of an old barn. We had just had the "FIRE" command and as I loaded my Daisy single shot pistol I noticed a movement to my right, along the wall. It was a mouse scurrying back from downrange. I called it to the attention of the match director and he told me to shoot it. So I did. Had I known they were edible I probably would have brought it home but as I recall it was tossed in the trash. That happened years ago and was my last mouse kill.

My air rifle target of choice these days are Starlings. Sneaky, alert little buggers they are.
