Need a magazine spring for a 24" Rossi 92, 38/357

Post by 2571 »

Rossi has none & doesn't know when they might.

Regular gun sources (Midway, Brownell's) seem not to have one right now.

Anybody got an idea where to look? Should I be thinking of trying a spring from another mfg'r? Probably need a Rossi follower too; modified replacement currently in rifle does not provide for air pressure relief.

Drill a 1/16" hole crossways thru the smaller-diameter portion of the follower, for "pressure relief.."

Try Gun Parts or VTI Gunparts for a magazine spring..

I've never heard of that 'air pressure relief' thing - please explain...

We now have stainless mag springs for the Rossi 92's. I see so many with rusted springs we decided to carry these in the webstore.

Theoretically, the air inside the magazine tube is compressed by the sudden movement of the follower. That compression interferes with the desired action of the entire mechanism and may result in feeding problems. A hole, channels in the follower or the intentional under sizing of the follower diameter precludes the compression of air in the magazine cylinder.

Routine to vent sg followers. Supposedly feeding and corrosion problems are thus prevented.

Should be the same physical situation in a lever gun.

First response to my Q indicates that a centered hole would be obstructed by the bullet tip, or at last that's what I think he meant.

I've been shooting lever guns for nigh on to 10 lustrums now and have never heard of this air pressure thing. Personally if your mag tube is so air tight it creates a vacuum in the tube, it's TOO tight. Assembled with the wrong parts most likely.
