Mangey Coyote vs 32 WCF
I was talking to my Neighbor owns the farm behind me and said he had seen a young coyote in his orchard daily eating dropped pears. This made them a little nervous considering all the mischief they can get into around the place.
I called out of work yesterday due to a summer cold and not sleeping well. Well around noon I wanted some fresh air so took a walk or next door with my 1894CL in 32-20. I had it loaded with 4 gr of Unique and a Lyman 311008 115 gr cast bullet.
I had made a swing out to his back wall and was coming back towards home via a tote road through his wood lot. That's when I saw the coyote running away swinging to the right, no shot though. I ran has fast has an old fat man can back up the road to get to the wall which is cleared about 20 feet wide.
Has soon has I arrived I caught the coyote coming out on a deer trail about 65 yards and I let him have one. He dropped got up and ran into the woods. I walked down and he had made it about twelve feet. He was hit through the lungs behind the shoulders. I was impressed I have shot them with the 44 carbine and had them run further.
Now I was feeling pretty cocky and said I'll go get my camera and try to post a picture. Just before the woodlot road comes out in their hay field I looked down another tote road and there was another coyote standing there. It was gone before I got the rifle up but if I had been looking I should of had lots of time to get it done.

Good job!
If you saw two just out for a walk I'd say you have a prime area to do some thinning. A predator call would probably provide you some more opportunities.

Scrawny, like many around here. At night when a pack is howling and challenging another pack, they seem like they must all be healthy, robust, and tough beasties; that one looked like it needed 'put out of its misery'...

It has a serious case of the Mange alright! Good thing you dropped him, as the Mange is contagious to other animals (and sometimes humans) and can really get spread around.

Good shot
I have a mangy coyote tale
I put a greyfox set on a gas line right of way that cut across the foothills of the Santa Ritas.
I had used a drag because the ground was to rocky to drive a stake.
Next morning trap was gone, trail went straight down gas line, tracking very difficult because of rocky ground and range cattle, finally found trap with mangy coyote attached wearing a bright orange tracking collar.
Killed coyote, read tag on collar with trepidation , wrote down PH number, and called the next morning, lady at U.of A. answered the phone I told her where coyote was in case battery on collar was dead.
If it wasn't for my ID number being stamped on the jaw of the trap i would have never touched the coyote let alone read the tag, had that creepy crawly feeling the rest of that day.

Re: Mangey Coyote vs 32 WCF
Nice job on one sorry-looking coyote! Your 4 gr. Unique load must be just a scosh faster than my "grandkid-approved" subsonic load of 3-grains Red Dot. What kind of a "crack!" does that Unique load give -- does it seem to be subsonic?

Great job! Gettin rid of them any way you can is a good plan.
Near me in Lakeland,Fl there was a news story not long ago where residents in a certain area can't leave any pet outside now unattended. Yotes get 'em all. They are sure gettin out of hand.

Like Doc said, you did him a favor by puttin' him outa his misery. The coyotes are becoming a nuisance around here and we hear them every night. Sometimes quite close. I need to be using my 32 WCF on them. 3.5 Red Dot and 115 grain bullet.

Re: Mangey Coyote vs 32 WCF
The 4 Gr of Unique is doing around 1170 but is easy on the ears but been hard on the woodchucks and this sickly fellow. I was going to scope this rifle and load some hot H110 over 100 gr XTPs but its so nice to carry and shoot at the original velocity. Also has bad has my eyes are the tang sight sure helps and I hit 2 out of three soup cans at 75 yards off hand in my back field with it this last week, so I will wait awhile on scoping it.

You did a good thing. That poor critter could not have been happy with it's condition.
However, are you sure it a yote? Last time I saw a picture like that on the web someone was trying to pass it off as a Chupacabra.
