Celebrated 1 year of wedded bliss with my lady this weekend. I surprised her with a short trip to the Lake of the Ozarks, and goofed around there a couple days. Had dinner at The Cave Restaurant, the nation's only restaurant that's actually inside a cave. It was a neat experience, and the food was great. If you ever get near Richland, MO, I'd suggest you make time for it.
Spent a little time checking out Bagnell Dam yesterday too. Pretty impressive project, as it was the only major construction going on in the country at the time, during the Great Depression. 20,000 people worked on it at one time or another, and it took just 18 months from start to finish.
We played in the Old West for a bit too. See, there is a levergun in this post.

They have a giant sandwich called the Stalagmite, that's so big if you can eat it and the fries that come with it all in 30 minutes it's free. Judging from the pictures they had of it, I could knaw on it for a week and have some left over.

Those 1930's construction projects were amazing, they got a lot done really fast. My Maine grandfather worked on a number of dams as an engineer, and he never graduated from high school - got expelled for arguing with his math teacher Seems like they were more interested in results than certificates then.

She struggles daily with short term memory, and word recogognition issues, in addition to bad headaches, and pain that runs down her whole left side. Some days are worse than others though. She continues to see a neurologist, and a neurophyscologist regularly, but we are getting closer to the 1 year mark since the accident. They say if the brain isnt back to its pre accident condition at that time, then there probably wont be any improvement after that.

Yep, it's amazing what a good woman can do to the quality of your life. Now, if we can just get her back to her old self, we'll both be good. We spent a good part of the day in the ER yesterday because of unbearable head and neck pain, which we believe to be related to her accident last summer. Some days are better than others, but all of her doctors seem to just want to treat the symptom instead of getting to the root cause and fixing it. It's been very frustrating for me, I can't imagine what it's been like for her.

I can empathize with her. I was doing so well recovering from my ruptured disc and back surgery in 2009, then the accident in 2012 wiped it all away. I'm in pain 100% of the time now - just a matter of degree. Some times it is darn near unbearable. I'll say a prayer for her Ted.
Nice photos. How in the heck did they ever get all that equipment into that place, up that narrow spiral staircase? There has to be a back entrance to the cave, no? Hope your wife has a complete recovery as well.

There is another entrance about 50 yards down the face of the rock wall, at about the same height as the one at the spiral staircase. They installed an outside elevator at that one. I noticed a brick wall with a door in the back of the restaurant seating area and asked our waitress about it. She said the health dept. required the rest of the cave be sealed off from the restaruant. Apparently it goes on back quite some distance, and there is another entrance back there, which is just a hole in the ground on top of the ridge. She wouldn't let me explore it though.
Good to hear about your time together. This sounds like a place I need to take my lovely bride of 34 years to this summer. It's been a while since we've been away. Best wishes on a continuing good recovery for your wife.
