Victory is Mine. [ALL SHOT UP]
BEHOLD.
She has a cross bolt safety, so that places her at [editedit] serial confirms (probably) 1993. Regardless, its very nice and features a JM stamp. Missing the front sight hood, but those are easy to come by. For $380 (listed $425), I'll live with it and the scuff marks here and there. An SKS sacrificed it's life for this purchase and she won't be parting my collection easily.
Honestly, this should be a lesson to aspiring sellers... The guy listed his company name instead of the product in the title link on backpage and then completely misspelled his product page "Marlin Gloden Liver Action..."
Complete keyword failure, because this thing should have been snapped up the moment it got listed, not over a month downrange.
But that's how I know it was meant to be

You bought the gun I have been wanting a long time! I always had reservations buying a .22 that cost the same as a centerfire, so I kept putting it off. Then, they brought out the rebounding hammer and I lost interest. Now, I'm wanting a 'pre rebounding, pre Remlin' but the are still expensive. You solved that problem! Great buy!

Didn't marlin add the crossbolt safety circa 1983?She has a cross bolt safety, so that places her at [edit] serial confirms 1972.

Like this one. Granted, it's not the worst I've seen, but the difference for very nearly the same price is exponential.bulldog1935 wrote:very nice buy - I've seen dogs at pawn shops for the same price.

Hmm... I don't think the website I visited took the preceding zero on the serial into account, so you might be right when combined with the presence of a safety. Possibly made in '93 then (assuming I'm now subtracting the first two numbers from the year 2000).rock-steady wrote:Didn't marlin add the crossbolt safety circa 1983?She has a cross bolt safety, so that places her at [edit] serial confirms 1972.

For the type of use a lever action .22 should receive over the course of 40 or 50 years, i'd say the gun there from "Mo Money Pawn" is actually still in pretty good shape -- i'd buy itPanzercat wrote:Like this one. As a local, I would suggest you not purchase from Mo Money Pawn.

It has been some years now, but I used to see them at the gun shows.
The man who was thier front guy was very annoying.
I do know when I see the banner, I just avoid going by there.
This is not a reflection on thier product or buisiness practices, just an observation.

While we're on the topic, personal defense warehouse- whom I bought the marlin from -was very pleasant to deal with.
If you're in the area, take a stop by. I liked them.

Re: Victory is Mine. [ALL SHOT UP]
Final update here-- OH YEAH! This thing is great! Took her out to the range and was impressed. Even my friend was impressed, admitting that it was well worth the sacrifice of an SKS. I underestimated the capacity of the rifle, thinking it would only 13-14ish. I think it's a 22in barrel and that's about 19-20 rounds. And they seem to last forever
I have to admit, the 39a is no slouch in the weight department, but it soaks up the recoil pretty darn well. The action is precise with zero slop, punching out those spent rounds with satisfying hang-time. I had even taken to angling the ejection port upward just to catch the brass as it flew skyward. Zero FTF, zero FTE, 100% fun times. Most of my shots were unsupported, but if I did my part, the rifle certainly did it's, though I'm looking into rails as we speak.
I can tell you that I find this rifle classic much more satisfying than the 10/22 I let go about a year back. Frankly, there's just no contest. Thanks to everybody who first recommended this one. It's worth every penny.

A Shiloh Sharps version #131 will be on my Sporter #1 soon...hopefully by deer season this fall....I like using a large "peep" ghost ring-sized for plinking and hunting.....You can see better in the shadows, and early/late.BrentD wrote:Pony up now, and you will thank me later. REALLY.

39A has been my all time favorite lever gun. Unbelievable how much fun and satisfaction it has given over the years. Congrats on the find.
