Pics XTP Bullet Sheds Jacket..Reveals Intersting Info

Post by Ben_Rumson »

I’ve had this XTP 44 cal. Jacket kicking around a few years and ran across it today and thought I’ post about it…I fired this bullet out of my Win 73 SRC with a load of IIRC 12gr 2400 ..I think they were clocking around 1050 to 1100 fps. I saw this jacket laying on the bank I’d just fired into..I know it’s from my gun.. First I was surprised that the bullet shed it’s jacket, but was really amazed to see where the friction of it traveling through the barrel had caused the lead core to melt where the lands cut into it… To me this shows how much friction contributes to barrel heat..Note that the interior base has no signs of melting from the powder flame..
