Re: Beech or Beach?
Thanks for posting this, Griff!
I've seen it spelled both ways, even in my own posts! I most often have seen it spelled "Beach" and so considered that correct. Then I got Stroebel's book "Old Gun Sights", and on page 54 he states for the Lyman No. 5 Combination Front Sight, "Lyman procured manufacturing rights to the "Beech" front sight by obtaining a patent on the design on July 14, 1891". He uses that same spelling in other references to the sight, so I got to thinking it must be correct.
Now, thanks to this thread, I know for sure the correct spelling is "Beach". Just goes to show you that even reference book authors don't always get it right.

Re: Beech or Beach?
Okay, while you're straightening this one out, how about correcting those who insist upon calling Patridge sights "Partridge" sights?

Griff,
Wow, I too always thought it was "Beech"
This is from the collectors book "Old Gunsights"
Then I also heard a "beech" was what a Mexican called a nasty woman.----6

Re: Beech or Beach?
I guess I’m just ignorant.
I thought you were trying to decide if you should go cut some firewood or go swimming.

Re: Beech or Beach?
I thought Beech was an aircraft manufacturer. You know, like D-18 Beech.

I QUAIL at the thought of trying to straighten that one out. though it would be a feather in your cap if you could.

Re: Beech or Beach?
Beech doesn't make airplanes. Beech is a tree, Fagus species; and their seedlings are sons of beeches.
