A customer of mine was describing problems he was having with his new Marlin 1894 Cowboy II in 44 mag. Seems that when the bullets hit the target (seldom), there were clear signs of tumbling. Curious. A call to Marlin informed him that they are using .432" bores to reduce pressure! Friends, that model will never shoot a typical .429-.430" bullet accurately. It just so happens that I had a similar problem years ago with a Remington Model 788 in 44 mag and had two custom moulds cut. Problem solved. My customer tells me the rifle now shoots "one ragged hole". These two NEI moulds, a 230 grain SWC-GC and a 240 grain SWC-GC, are made to size out at .433" and turned both of these guns into respectable shooters. Do you have an overbore 44?

Some knowledgeable Ruger handgun shooters have informed me that their (all?) Ruger 44's suffer from large cylinder throats. Instead of the .429-.430" throats that you might expect, their guns run up to .432". Montana bullets works is some very fine folks to deal with. I've shot alot of their cast bullets. One time I called and ordered bullets and they misspelled my name on the boxes, not on the address or anything, they called me before the ammo arrived and apologized. I didn't give a hoot how they spelled my name, but for them to take time to call impressed me, not to mention the quality of their bullets.

My Marlin 1894SS .44mag came with a bore that slugged at .4315. It shot jacketed quite well but very poor with cast using the largest sizer I had (.430).
I sent it back to Marlin and they rebarreled it and had it back in my hands in 16 days. It slugs at .4295 now and is a good cast bullet shooter.

I was reading Ranch Dogs site the other night and I found it interesting all the bullet moulds he has the are the correct diameter for Marlin bores. The 444 is mould is .432 .So when I find a Marlin 444 I will be buying one of his moulds. But he is getting the correct diameter bullets for all Marlin calibers.
