Back at the beginning of the year (or was it the end of last year?) Paco moved his leverguns.com website and forum to a new server. We gave folks warning of the impending move and then shut down the old forum. I'm not sure why, but for some reason the old forum was reactivated a couple of times and we buried it again. Then the moderators profiles were deleted, but not by the former provider of hosting. It is now my belief that when the moderators were deleted, any action they'd taken was also annulled - including the shutting down of the forum. Since folks have developed quite an attachment to the old shnitz type forum, many kept checking back, "just in case" I guess. And when they found the door opened they kept returning. However, we now find that folks are using the old forum for which there is no longer any re-reimbursement for bandwidth or storage being made to the owner of the server. This is NOT good, because in effect folks are trespassing. Yeah, the server owner should permanently lock the gate, but that's not our concern. Our concern is to ask folks to respect the shut down of the old server and not generate any more bandwidth usage over there. The owner of the server apparently doesn't care enough at this point to shut it down himself but it would behoove us to show respect for his property by not using it even though the gate's wide open.
As for the appeal for help, there are no new registrations allowed over there - and our moderation accounts have been closed. Many of you still have active accounts over there. I'd like to ask several of you to go ahead and post a few notices of the situation over there - with bill boards pointing folks this way. Don't just create one thread, if several of you would create individual threads so that the point is driven home. We have no right to continue using that space and bandwidth and what I'm asking is merely that you post simple notices to that effect along with instructions on how to reach the real leverguns.com forum - over here.
Again, I apologize for not fully thinking the situation through and investigating more thoroughly prior to my first post on the subject today. Jumping to conclusions and flying off the handle are NOT good exercises, but I did both. Mea Culpa and all that.
Now, back to our regular programming of leverguns, OT threads and animal rights spats.
