Read all of the series to date. Great stories, best read in order published.

Forgot to mention that a search "Lee Child" on ABE books shows just about all of his books are available in either hard cover or paperback. Used paperbacks are very economical.

recommend ABE as I been a satisfied customer for awhile. Economical way to obtain a good many winter night's reading.

Read all' bout it:

I actually really disliked the movie...Tom Cruise is no Jack Reacher! However I love the books and have read them all multiple times, including the newest, "Never Go Back."

I also have them in epub form if anyone is interested.

I didn't watch the movie because I just can't picture Stumpy as a 6'5'' man. Maybe as J'a Kreacher.

Yeah the short dude playing a tall guy thing was bad enough.

Though in the series, a Special Forces officer who can't drive?

Seriously?

not having read any of the books -- I actually thought the movie was entertaining

I'm only 5'9 myself -- I'm quite comfortable seeing action stars my own height -- (Statham, Stallone, - in this case, Cruise - although reports say he's stretching it at 5'7)

I don't have a problem with the fact that he is short, but with the fact that in his movies he is supposed to be tall. Most of us are not over 6 foot, and Horatius was probably not over 5'10" since the Roman Army limited the height at that for reasons of making the interlocking wall of shields work. Horatius held off about 10,000 screaming and fighting mad Gauls and Goths for most of a day, and that is a feat that has really only been duplicated in a way by 2 that I know of. Roland of Roncesvalles, and some Japanese monk who held off a warlord's entire army. Back from the drift, if he would play a person of the height he is supposed to be, it would really help me to get over my dislike of his movies. Audie Murphy was not tall or big, but everyone knew he was as tough as they come.

Since I've read all of the books in the series, I can't bring myself to watch the movie. Jack Reacher's intimidating size, 6'5" and 255 lbs has always been an important characteristic of Reacher. Tom Cruise may be able to convince an audience that he's a jet pilot, a race car driver, or a bada$$; but he will never convince anyone that he's 6'5" and 255 lbs. Besides I won't pay to see one of his movies because of the whole Scientology cult thing.

Reacher was an officer in the military police not special forces. The author Lee Child must be getting bored with the series because the last book reeked.

I just watched the movie tonight, right before you posted. I've never read the books, but I will now. I had to laugh at the bar scene, shot from above, where he was walking through the crowd. He was "taller" than everyone in the place. I figured they had a raised platform for him to walk on. The scene where they discussed the "nuts" at the shooting range, they just have to get their digs in, don't they?

I have read all the books and enjoyed them immensely. I had serious doubts about Tom Cruise playing the part but I enjoyed the movie for what it was. I think that most movies that come from books change things from the books somewhat.

Puller that was hysterical. I love the books and enjoyed the movie. I thought tiny portrayed the character very well although he doesn't quite measure up physically

I've learned my lesson. I rarely go to the movies, belay that, effectively never go to the movies. But the ones I've seen on TV made from books I liked ALWAYS disappoint. Going all the way back to Michener's "Hawaii". So I won't watch this one either.

My wife clued me in to to this series and it's one of my favorites, but I think a previous comment about the author getting bored with the character is spot on. I'm sure it's hard as an author to walk away from familiar ground that makes you a lot of money. Look how far Clancey went with Jack Ryan. But I think it's time for Lee Child to move on.

Any of you guys read Baldacci's books. Pretty good too. I think I have read all the Reacher novels also, but haven't seen the movie. I can relate to Reacher, he is my size.

Didn't like it.
All the characters seemed to have one job, make Cruise look good.
According to Wikipedia, Cruise's own production company is planning to make a series of Reacher films.
On the other hand, since Hollywood seems to be mostly pretty boys, who could play Reacher?

Selleck & Elliot are to old to pull it off.

I've thought about this; years ago Nick Nolte would have been perfect. I've seen Vladimir Kulich in the movie "The 13th Warrior" and I think he would do a credible job. He's a Czech-Canadian actor.

The stubby actor in the movie is NO Jack Reacher. But to be believeable, it needs an actor with more stature.

Have read all the books, and while "stubby" did a good job in the movie, according to my wife, she agrees, he's not Jack Reacher.

I don't know I am 6' 4" @ 255lbs and he scares me! :?:
One cool thing about Tom from what I have heard is the dude is absolutely anal about doing his own stunts.
I mean they tell him you might get killed on this one etc. but he insists if it ain't him its faking it ??

Actually all in all pretty good job doing it.

Besides it ain't the size of the dog in the fight but the size of the fight in the dog!

Liam would have been cool though!

The movie led me to order all Lee Child's books through my city's public library.

I liked each & every one of them - great entertainment.

Let's see cruise is a short little critter. Reacher was BIG. In most of the books, at some point, the writer makes reference to the size of his hands. Cruise's little paws will never measure up. Cruise is a "cutesy" faced weakling. Reacher is battered, and in the more recent books getting older and uglier.

In other words, cruise is likely the last Hollywood type that should play Reacher. It's an insult to the writer and character.

The writer got paid for his insult. No sorry there.

How do you insult a character?

It was a *******' movie - good for about 120 minutes of mindless entertainment. Nothing more, nothing less.

I loved the earlier Reacher books, but the last few were so formulaic that I found them a waste of time. And Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher? Please spare me! Might as well cast Julia Roberts as Margaret Thatcher.
