Ran across one of these this morning that the lady it thinking about selling.
It has ser. #553xxx, 24" octogon bbl.

I would probably rate it good/fair. (just took a quick look at it without glasses) haven't checked the bore.

She asked if I knew where to get an estimated value. So what do you think?

Description young man, we need to know more. :D originality, configuration, blue and wood condition, sights, bore condition, extra holes? I have seen 'em go for anywhere from $300-$10,000-----------------------If its just a standard configuration with say...50% blue, decent wood, decent bore and ORIGINAL, its worth between 9 and 15---------sixgun

I just bought an original Winchester 1892 38 WCF round barrel in all original condition a few weeks ago. The barrel has about 60% fading blue, the receiver has about 20% blue, the wood is original, and nice, without any dings or gouges. The bore is excellent, with strong, sharp rifling all the way down with no pitting. It was made in 1913. I paid $1,200 for it (alas, I had to sell my original '73 to buy this, but the bore was so bright and sharp, I decided to go for it.) I'll be posting a nice photo of it as soon as I got some ammo to put in the photo (which may take a while, because right now, I have no dies, no brass, and no mould to cast bullets with, and no casting pot and ladle, but I'm working on it.)

Hey, thanks for the young man thing 6gun.
As reported I didn't have my glasses, got the cal. and ser.# by braile. :D

Some blue left on the bbl, sweat pitts in reciever (not deep but numerous) this was never a safe queen, many small marks, dings, gouges in the wood. Seems to be original end to end.

She was thinking $2,000 I told her it would probably go closer to $700-1000.
Someone told her old Wins. are worth their weight in gold.
I've not seen one sell recently in 38wcf.

From your description, I'd say closer to $700, maybe a tad more if it is entirely original, mechanically sound, and a decent bore.

when you start to load for that try s-line brass first
as win brass and rcbs dont play nice in this caliber
and you may need to shorten your sizer die a bit for nice
