What would your educated guess be as to value on my 61, sn 45297, 1940-vintage? It's 22 S, L, or LR. It's been in the closet a few years. Thanks. Here's a link to some more not-so-great images http://www.picturetrail.com/gallery/vie ... &members=1

It's still pre-war, with the D&T'd tang, and even with the little bit of surface corrosion it's in nice shape.

If you're planning on listing it on one of the auction sites, then an opening bid of $600 is fair and watch it go up.

If you know how to gently clean the exterior metal, with Break Free/Flitz/and 0000 steel or bronze wool it would really improve the appearance. It looks like that crud is just surface stuff.

If I noticed correctly, the bluing is thin on the barrel with a fair amount of slide wear. Pictures are kind of hard to tell by, but it looks like about a 75% gun. If thats right, that gun could be had here in Pa. for about $450. Its classified as a shooter. It had better be real nice for $600. About 20 miles down the road, a dealer has a 98% Model 62 for 9 c-notes--------Sixgun

Check the auction sites and you'll get an idea of what they are selling for. Look at the closed auctions.

Here in the Pac NW your rifle, being pre-war, would easily sell for $600. Post war$450. Those 2 screws in the top tang makes all the difference.

Thanks for the replies. I didn't check the closed auctions, but I did check the current open auctions. Most have a very high opinion of their Winchesters. I was looking for a real world price. Obviously, I like jdad's opinion better than Sixguns :D I'll put $650 on it and give it a couple days. Then I might have to put it back in the closet. Thanks

Edward
