I Q test ............
OK, here is an I Q test.
Question, part 1:
What is the first thing you should do if the doors to your vehicle are frozen shut do to a rain followed by sub freezing weather. ( It's 21° here now) The door hands are not frozen just the doors to the weather stripping.
Question, part 2:
What is the second thing you should do?
Answers in a bit.

Re: I Q test ............
LOL, some good answers.
Don't have a remote starter.
WD-40 is in the garage and I didn't think of it. I did use de-icing spray and that does work.
But still you guys missed the answer.
Move someplace warmer ===== OH YES!!!!
Garage is stuffed, can't hardly walk into it ....

Re: I Q test ............
Believe this or not, boiling water will freeze faster than cold water. I tried it in the freezer and it's true.

#1 = Question, part 1:

Well, I mentioned that I used the spray de-icer on the doors but they still wouldn't open.
The de-icer usually works quickly.
So the answer to part one is: UNLOCK THE DOORS.
#2 = Question, part 2:
What is the second thing you should do?
The answer to part two is: USE THE RIGHT KEY ON THE DOORS.
I kept spraying the de-icer on them and just wouldn't open.
I failed the IQ test ................. where' my sign?

Wipe all the gaskets with silicone spray and ice won't stick them shut.

Re: I Q test ............
I had a Mercury that was awful that way in the winter (all of them if that vintage were). It happened most mornings. I had a remote starter, but due to circumstances it would take too long to explain, it didn't make the heat come on, so it was no help.
The locks would freeze, so from November to April I left it unlocked. No matter, the latches and gaskets still froze. Hot water worked, as did cold water, but I was always afraid of shattering the windows. Besides that, it made the problem much much worse the next time around.
The only answer I found was to leave an electric heater in the car with the cord stuck out the door. In the morning I'd plug it into an extension cord until the door would open.

Sort of like having the locksmith come out to open a vehicle when the spare key can't be found (and the primary key was locked in the vehicle during the middle of a move) and the spare key somehow jumps out of the wallet when the money is coming out to pay the locksmith.
Not saying I ever did that...

I'm thinking seriously of a medium tarp with magnets on the nights it rains and is going to freeze. Don't that before back in sunny AZ eons ago.

Stand back about 10 feet and hit it with a load of #6's. It usually takes about 4 shots, right along the seam.
Run an extension cord out and use a heavy duty hair dryer. You only need to get one door open, and most likely at only a few spots.--------Sixgun

Re: I Q test ............
Mescalaro,
Ah the Bradshaws ............ I know that area fairly well. At least I used to. I'd love to see it again.
Sixgun,
We did use the hair dryer to get into the camper hatch on my wifes truck. Took about 45 seconds to melt the ice.
The doors are only froze at the top where the body molding keeps the rain water out of the door channel. A few minutes of the anti-freeze stuff frees them right up.
But you still gotta unlock the stupid door.

We're laughing with you Joe.
really
BTW, I wipe down the weather seals on the doors with Armorall a couple of times each winter and that keeps the doors from freezing shut. (usually)

Re: I Q test ............
It's supposed to cold but dry for the next few days. I'm gonna go out and clean the rubber and coat it with silicone grease. Genuine FoMoCo synthetic grease made for rubber stripping. I've had it for years and never needed to use it for that.

If the door locks freeze, heat the key. Worked for me on a frozen padlock, anyway.
