Another Win 150 question

Post by awp101 »

The earlier question about Win 150's reminded me that someone asked a tech question on another forum where I play cat herder. I figured I'd "ask" here and pass the info along:
Winchester Model 150, 22 Cal Leaver Action. - need a fix !

Hi folks - I’ve got an old Winchester Mod. 150 with a broken firing pin.

Does anyone here have that riffle ?
and - has anyone here ever replaced the firing pin ?

I ordered the firing pin and have it ...
but seems a bit more complicated to put one in
than to take a broken one out...

So - if anyone knows this gun inside out
or has already gone through the process of
replacing the firing pin -
I sure would appreciate some advice.

Thanks all :)
It come apart rather easy and I have the bolt completely out of the gun.
The issue is that the new pin will not go into the bolt due to a little bump along the pin, that I’m concerned may be key in ejecting the empty shell. I could take my dremal and grind the little bump on the pin down so that it just slides in - but if I’m wrong, I’ll have ruined a $50 pin. The advice I need is from someone who has work on this very gun - Win. Mod. 150.

Perhaps if I posted a few pics of the bolt and pin - you or others could lend some advice...

Thanks for any info I can pass back to him!

Seems to me that I have the info in my copy of the exploded drawings of .22 rifles but I'm at work and don't have that here. I guess he's not comparing the part he bought with the part he has.... I don't own one, never tried to take one down so I'm of no help there. However, those guns, lever or semi-auto or pump were all made with a tremendous commonality of parts so that the firing pin is likely the same for all three models. He could look those guns up as well. I think the semi-auto was the 190/290 and was more common than either the pump or lever version.

Back in the early '70's I had a 290. Not a bad gun. Decent iron sights, no jamming. Not being a scope shooter then, I didn't like the crappy little monte carlo. Also, the trigger pull was a bit heavy. Instead of rasping off the monte carlo and having a gunsmith work the trigger a little, I traded the gun away. Thinking back, and knowing what I know now, I probably should have kept it. Not a beauty, but very functional.
