Source for 'custom' Contender barrels...?
I know several here are Contender (and Encore) fans, and I've been thinking of getting a Contender barrel set up in some heavy-for-caliber chambering for subsonic loads.
What sources have you used for non-standard chamberings...?
I am still considering the .32-20, as I've heard some in the silhouette crowd load 160-200 grain bullets in them, but there isn't much info out there, and I'd assume that I'd have to cut a custom throat in the barrel to handle the long bullets.
After thinking it over, the .338 Spectre seems a better choice - better bullets, a bit more room in the case, and the option to later get an AR-15 upper using the round. Plus, I'd avoid the issue of having to keep separate 'regular' .32-20 loads vs. 'special' subsonic ones (though I doubt even 'hot' .32-20 loads would harm the suppressor I'm considering).
I can't think of ANY good reason I need to have a heavy/subsonic Contender setup, but like COSteve said in his thread - it's a sickness, and there is no rational thought...
I also thought about the same concept only in an Encore rifle-length barrel.
So far, to keep things simple, I use my Contender frame for ALL pistol-length barrels, and my Encore frame for ALL rifle-length barrels.

Match Grade Machine ( MGM ) Had them make me a 8.25" 9mm and 12" 30/30. They are both nice shooting. Have nice mirror smooth bores. 30/30 will do anything you need from 32ACP type loads up to full on factory loads. Think its more useful than either a 22LR or 357 Mag barrel.
30/30 Winchester: Not accurate enough fer varmints, barely adequate for small deer; BUT In a 10" to 14" barrelled pistol; is good for moose/elk to 200 yards; ground squirrels to 300 metres

David Van Horn, Gilbert Arizona
I have a Vanhorn Custom barrel, (Rifle) wildcat. .270 Ingram chambering, a 223 case necked up to .270 with an AI neck. Shoots 90 gr. Sierra HP's ver well.
I just added a TC barrel to my collection. A "Super 14" 223, with Magna-Ports. Found it at a garage sale for $40.00. It has no sights, but barrel is D&T fore & aft. It will soon wear a Burris fast-fire III, when I can get my hands on one. This barrel is in mint condition.
If this barrel does not shoot well, it will be punched out & rifled to 25 caliber, chamber reamed too; 25-35 Winchester.

SSK Industries and their line of Whisper cartridges.

Another vote for SSK.
Re: Source for 'custom' Contender barrels...?
Dealt with SSK several times in the past. They are putting a muzzlebrake on a 45-70 15" barrel right now. They are the best people to deal with that I have seen in a long time. Recommend them without reservation.

Why not just a barrel in 300 AAC Blackout? Works great suppressed and in an AR!

The problem is finding a company thatshawn_c992001 wrote:Why not just a barrel in 300 AAC Blackout? Works great suppressed and in an AR!
- a) makes them in that chambering (though I'd prefer the .338 Spectre), and
b) doesn't have a six-month back-log, and
c) supplies them with threaded muzzle.
I guess I have to keep shopping...
