Savage Favorite reline question

Post by 3leggedturtle »

1st off nice posts on them, didnt want to sidestep them. Speaking of a .25 rimfire , can it be relined to 22LR or would the extractor not be long enough along with the firing pin being too far away? Mind is working overtime today. Found a decent shape one and was wondering what to do with it. It is a sweet nicely used/worn rifle.
30/30 Winchester: Not accurate enough fer varmints, barely adequate for small deer; BUT In a 10" to 14" barrelled pistol; is good for moose/elk to 200 yards; ground squirrels to 300 metres

250 Savage... its what the 223 wishes it could be...!

My dad has the same problem with his Favorite. He has the 1894 version Favorite in .25 also. From what we found out on the internet, he could reline the barrel - about $200.00, and either replace the pivoting block & firing pin, or have the FP hole welded up and redrilled with a new FP. So he decided to leave it alone and just shoot it once in awhile till we figure out how to get some Canuck brand ammo out of Canada. Wisnersinc.com carries alot of the Favorite parts.

You can reline it and replace the breech block. It will probably end up costing more than what you already paid, for the rifle.
I know a whole lot about very little and nothing about a whole lot.
