Turkeys with a levergun

Post by Shrapnel »

Two of my favorite things are turkeys and a model 94 25-35. I have killed all sorts of game with the 25-35 and it isn't even deer rated. It sure did kill this turkey...

Shrapnel: You are fortunate to live in a state that allows the use of a rifle during turkey season. That's a handsome Winchester. I'd love to be able to use my Remington Model 14 pump in .25 Remington on a turkey. What bullet were you using?

I figured I could use my 45 colt for deer and turkeys. MN says no.

I load a 117 grain round nose with 3031 powder to replicate a factory load. It has worked on all sorts of game.

I thought this was going to be a documentary of militant turkeys!

Nice gobbler! And I would really like to get my mitts on an excellent condition 25-35 like that. :)

Don't see them around these parts much.

The 25-35 is my favorite rifle caliber for just plain bumming around in the woods when I'm not looking for anything in particular. Yours is gorgeous. Nice turkey too!

Shootin' turk with a rifle here in Nebraska is a no no also.
What would that 25 do on a squirrel?

Why wait? I have a bunch of 80 grain cast bullets so I can hunt rabbits all winter. These guns were meant to shoot, not sit in a safe somewhere.

Sweet! T'was it a head shot? Good shootin' regardless! And where's all that full camo I hear you need to wear when turkey hunting? Was this a "posed" photo op?  :P

26" Octagon nice. Hope bird was 1/10 as good to eat :)
30/30 Winchester: Not accurate enough fer varmints, barely adequate for small deer; BUT In a 10" to 14" barrelled pistol; is good for moose/elk to 200 yards; ground squirrels to 300 metres
