POLITICS - Ammunition bans coming to YOUR state?

Post by AJMD429 »

Got an e-mail from a local group and when I looked up the links the ban (of course not called that, but that is the effect) is actually on the roster in INDIANA! That's supposed to be a VERY pro-gun state, so you may want to check yours as well.

I will cut and paste the e-mail below:

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Read This. Pass it along!

http://www.in.gov/legislative/bills/200 ... 260.1.html

(it isn't just Indiana - see http://ammunitionaccountability.org/Legislation.htm also)

Just so all of you who have a basement full of ammo and think 'who cares' (sometimes I think this includes MOST NRA members, unfortunately) - note the parts about:
  • ammunition fitting "any handgun or assault weapon" would in fact include anything from 17 HMR to 50 BMG, and probably be interpreted eventually to include shotgun shells
  • "Requires a person who owns ammunition for a handgun or assault weapon that is not encoded ammunition to dispose of the ammunition before July 1, 2011"
  • therefore establishes the right for the government to search for that ammunition, and finding ONE ROUND of it would still be a crime
  • firearms legislation typically carries felony penalties
  • violation of gun laws often results in seizure (sometimes at gunpoint!) of all firearms, and in this case, ammunition, reloading components, etc.
The bill of course has the usual strategy of 'over-reach' - as evidenced that they 'only' regulate ammunition for the Mini-14 'with folding stock' but not the non-folding stock.

In case anyone doesn't realize it, THAT is the classic "fool-the-dumb-deer-hunter" strategy. WE point out the stupidity of that clause, at which point THEY 'fix' it.
THEY get 'credit' for 'compromising' and being 'reasonable' - and in the end, they 'only' regulate about half of what they asked for. The NRA goes along with the 'compromise' to get credit for being 'reasonable' - and we get yet more dangerous, useless 'gun control' on the books.

If WE stand our ground and refuse ANY such regulation, on the grounds that it:
  • a) is unconstitutional
  • b) will not accomplish it's [alleged] intended goal of reducing crime
  • c) is nonsensical from a technologic standpoint
  • d) will cause a landslide of alleged 'loopholes' needing 'solutions' (i.e. registration or prohibition of reloading equipment, etc.)
or
  • e) could lead to a police state

...then WE are accused of being 'unreasonable.'

Now you wouldn't want to be 'unreasonable' would you?

Well, if you DO want to be unreasonable, here's an EASY way... (I can't do it for you!)
  • 2. Click on the Link called "Legislative Action Center"
  • 3. on that page, pick "IN" by the Link called "STATE OFFICIALS" and then Click that "GO" button
  • 4. Click on the Link called "View" on the lower part of the page to the right of "IN Officials and Agencies"
  • 5. Click on the Link called "Indiana State Legislative Directory" near the top of the page
  • 6. Click on the Link at the bottom called "See All Indiana State Commitees"
  • 7. Click on the lower (House) list the committee called "Public Policy"
  • 8. You should get these names and links below: (apologies if they don't come through)
  • 9. Call AND e-mail AND fax them and let them know HOUSE BILL No. 1260:

isn't needed,
won't work,
wastes resources,
creates an abusable and dangerous database,
and then (sorry, you're not done with your homework yet...)
  • 11. Go back to the page where you clicked on the "Public Policy" committee
  • 10. If you know your OWN legislator's names (for your work AND home addresses) then enter their names for their contact information
  • 11. If you don't know their names (shame!), and enter your zip code and if needed, address - it may or may not direct you to your own legislators (it is finicky - sorry)
  • 13. Let your OWN legislator know you DO expect TOTAL neutralization of this inane and ridiculous legislation; no 'compromise' is reasonable, period.
  • 14. Have a nice cold drink of your choice, and finally,
  • 15. Get your friends (if you have any, since you're obviously an 'unreasonable' gun owner) to do the same.

We get the government we deserve, and put up with. Watching television and going hunting aren't activities which help preserve freedom. Bragging about "from my cold, dead fingers" is easy, and even dying for freedom is at least honorable, but the real WORK of maintaining freedom is usually using the soap box and the ballot box.
---------------------------------------------------------------------

P.S. We need to get any of the idiots who sponsored, or who go along with, this kind of legislation OUT OF OFFICE. They are either morons, wannabe tyrants, or so oblivious to the concept of freedom and what benefits the public that they shouldn't even be U.S. citizens, let alone holding public office.

I appreciate your long and hard work here today writing all this up, and showing the throat strangling tactics that some politicians will stoop to, in an attempt to harm and hinder gun people. When will some politician stand up, loud and clear, and condemn criminals and thugs, and WARN THEM, that their jig is about up? I guess it's easier to go after some honest guys few boxes of pistol ammo.

    Note the "bi-partisan" sponsorship.

This government has turned against the People.

    :?
Government office attracts the power-mad, yet it's people who just want to be left alone to live life on their own terms who are considered dangerous.

History teaches that it's a small window in which people can fight back before it is too dangerous to fight back.

A female demoncrap legislator just introduced similar legislation in Arizona a week or so ago.
The anti freedom traitors are really pushing hard before this coming election.
There is more to their agenda than meets the eye. Somethings afoot and it's not good for us or our country.

I wonder how much 9mm ball I can bury for use in the non-existent home-built 9mm subgun I don't yet have...

They haven't tried this garbage yet in SC - but they will. We do have a Democrat or two living in this very deep RED state. One of those nitwits will introduce the same kind of stuff here,

FWeidner has had a pretty good eye on the similarities lately of the different candidates, they may seem different, but are all on the same team. McCain regularly uses the term, "Reach across the Isle". To me that just means Dems and Repubs acting in concert to screw us, the people. If ammo laws go the way described here, when is it going to be all over and done with as to our rights even to own guns? No one big win for the enemy is ever enough.

According to one of the denziens of another Indiana Forum the Indiana bill was killed in committee last month...

    I hope it's true.

I'm still going to use this bill against "my" Representative (IN9) come Election season.

I agree - pin their hides to the wall even for THINKING it...!

As far as if it is still 'active' I don't know for sure. The government site I went to just showed it 'IN' committee, not what happened there, at least that I could see.

Gee...wouldn't it be wonderful if we had a legislative system simple and clear enough, and politicians who weren't always 'up to something' so we had to monitor the weasels...!
