A mission that may have saved many lives on the ground. Bravery and courage beyond description. Sorry if this has been posted before, but it's one of my favorites.

There are scores of stories of people doing heroic things in war times. It's good that we can preserve these accounts. Maybe years from now our children will realize what their liberty cost.

Those guys were definitely heroes. They volunteered for a tough
job that turned out to be ALMOST impossibly tough in order to save the
lives of some grunts. Musta had trouble walking with big brass
ones like that......

Great story, thanks! Yes, heroes of the first order. Stories like this one, and ones like my father a 17 pilot-instructor pilot told, are what gave the Flying Fortress its reputation and very strong and emotional following.
