OT - Crimson Trace on J-frame range report

Post by Tycer »

I bought an LG105 Defender for my old beater flatlatch.

135 grain Speer GDHP for short barrel bullets over 6 grains of Unique.

At 50 feet it printed a 1.5" group right on the dot and at 100 it printed a 2" group 1.25" high and 1" left. No adjustments made yet.

I'm going to set it so it prints 1/2" left and 1" high at 50 because that is about the distance of the laser to the bore. Should stay roughly the same well past 100'.

I'll post results after I adjust it and take it to the range again.

I really like being able to point the gun at a target and then squeeze the laser on to check my point of aim. I'll work on odd angles and weak hand shooting with it.

Amazing how bright it is. I can see it at 600'. Big as a car, but it's still bright.
Kind regards,
Tycer

Tycer, what the heck are you talking about here?
"I bought an LG105 Defender for my old beater flatlatch. "

I don't know what a LG105 or beater flatlatch is.

I can guess it's a handgun of some sort.

Tycer:

Thanks for the report. Been thinking I need one of these and now I'm convinced.

My local shop has a CT grip for compact 1911s that would fit very nicely on my Colt Defender or Springfiled MicroCompact. The CT grip has been there for a couple years, a special order for a customer that apparently didn't ask his mommy first before ordering. Might have to stop there in the next week or two and see if a deal can't be struck.

Might as well face it, you're addicted to guns . . .

My hope and dream is that when the BG comes for me in the dark, I'll have a nice bright red spot to aim for :P I honestly believe that it could be a good tool to practice instinctive shooting, but I believe it would also slow you down over purely instinctive shooting and, of course, give away your position; even seeing that light come one would make one quickly change their position.

Crimson Trace laser grips model LG105, Defender series, mounted on a Smith&Wesson old model 36 revolver that has the early style flat latch cylinder release.
