You are far braver than I if you are willing to fire a 45-70 derringer. My 1895 Marlin is enough for me. God Bless.

Re: For you 45-70 fans (spotted on Gunbroker)
Had a buddy in AK who had a custom single shot .45/.454/.410 derringer.
It was his "sleeping bag gun".
His premise was if he was ever attacked by a bear wanting a midnite burrito he would feed it his arm pistol first and pull the trigger.
Sounds like bravado, but I watched him wrestle a trained black bear to a stand-off... the trainer stopped the fight before either he or the bear got seriously hurt. (bear had him by the ear, he had the bear by the nards...and both were still fighting...) So I believe he'd do it.

I understand why it is new and unfired.

Useless.................but it would be neat loading up some 45-70's with 1 gr. of Bullseye and lobbing them around the neighborhood like miniature artillery rounds. -----------Sixgun

I don't consider myself recoil sensitive, but I'll watch someone else shoot that top barrel.

Boy I don't know I would like to shoot it just to say I had, I was thinking of getting one a couple of years ago, but then I was considering the 45-70 revolver too.
I do think his price is a little high for that, I don't think they where/are that much new, unless the price has gone up...a lot!

I had one of those years ago in .357 and it was a handful. Can't imagine shooting it with .45-70.
Made the mistake of shooting it at dusk one time. Almost couldn't find my way back to the truck after the muzzle flash.

Re: For you 45-70 fans (spotted on Gunbroker)
I used to own and shoot a 45/70 Thompson Contender pistol with a 12 inch ported barrel, and I tell you I could shoot, and even hit pretty good, but that is all I would ever want in a pistol.
I don't think I would fire that 45/70 derringer with factory loads. As a matter of fact, I later on sold that contender to a co-worker, and one of our other co workers fired it with a full factory round one day, and got caught off guard, and it broke his nose. He looked pretty rough for a few days, and had to take some big time ribbing from us.
