Hello, after a couple of months lurking, I thought I'd say hello and post a pic of my only 94 so far. Never owned a lever gun before. Been more of a milsurp type. So I figured I'd remedy that. My dad has a 1892 that I always admired. So I picked this up about a week ago. 1957 '94 in 30-30. What got my attention was the saddle ring stud & curved butt plate. looks like it was a safe queen for most of it's life.

Toby, and Welcome to THE Forum. Excellent 1st post and introduction, thanks for the pic of your '57 model 94 Winnie. If I was to guess, I'd say that stock is a replacement with the "Commemorative" style buttplate on it. If the buttplate is smooth steel and very slightly radiused from side to side, then I'd be inclined to more authoritatively say so. I've seen buttstocks like those offered with and without the medalion cutout in the right side thru Numrich Arms (Gun Parts Inc.). The wood stain also looks a bit more to the brown shade than the "red" that Winchester used. But, photos being what they are, that ain't certainly definitive.

All in all, hopefully it's a fine shooter, and I'm sure one that will bring joy and happiness to a "new" levergunner!

Welcome aboard! Cool rifle. The saddle ring stud is very likely an add-on as well, as no Pre 64s (early 40s through 63) were so equipped that I know of.

Welcome !! I like the 94 especially the curved Buttplate, I just prefer those over straight ones which is idicative of Carbines. On the Saddle Ring Stud -I would guess that someone didn't like it banging around. I see it also has Sling Swivels ( U can't get in trouble for that as they were already there ) Nice first post with Pics even.
Now on another Note , I would try to talk Uour Dad out of His 92. What caliber is it BTW ?

Thanks for the compliments. I was hoping the butt was a super secret special order from Winchester. I guess not. But at least I don't have to buy a letter from the Cody museum now to verify it. I do like the curved butt plates, they remind me of the 1892's. The stock does have a reddish hue to it, but does not have the cut out for a medallion. The butt plate is smooth blue and radiused like you mentioned. I guess what got me was the fact none of the rec/stock screws looked like they had ever been turned. No evidence the gun had been re-blued. The seller mentioned he had owned the rifle a long,long time, but was not the original owner. (He looked to be about 50 like me)
If I remember correct, my dad's 1892 has a shorter octagonal barrel than my 94 with a barrel band, crescent butt and was in 44-40. He got the rifle when he was around 14 years old. I do remember the 44-40 had the trajectory of a brick compared to some of my other guns.
Now if the rain would quit, I can go try out my new toy.

That is a beauty of a 94. 94's of the 50's don't have a lot of collector's value, but they are a first class shooting carbine. If your carbine is factory original, it would be a very rare find. There is a good chance it is not, however, as pointed out be others above, but that would not bother me in the least, given what I said in the first sentence. I like your carbine.

Toby, I am inclined to agree with you on the super secret special order and the curved buttplate. A very nice looking rifle.
