Saddle rings

Post by Huntermb »

I've got a couple of model 94's that I would love to put some saddle rings on (I've never been fortunate enough to buy a rifle with it on it already). Where can a fellow pick them up these days, is there someone making them?

They show up on Ebay from time to time also. Since Pre 64 (as in ca 1941-63) saddle rings just about didn't exist--not sure any commemoratives even in that period?--there really are two main eras/varieties - Pre War and Post 64. I'm assuming you want the latter type where the ring is held higher on it's threaded post to keep it off the receiver to keep from marring it. The Pre War types lay the ring on the receiver just about like the 92s--clackity clack--though they had a different means of securement to the receiver (92s had a two-pronged U "staple"). IF someone says Pre 64, they're probably meaning Pre War, just semantics on the early ones but worth asking whether the ring "flops" freely or is held higher like the later ones. The Pre Wars vs the Post 64s had a different thread count and/or pitch too IIRC.

Tapaderas are great folks, but they only have saddle rings for the pre 64 threads. Bob's Gun Shop has both, but they $25. Have a blessed Christmas.

That's the one I used on my BLR with a screw post passing through the hammer pivot.
Kind regards,
