OT - The tradition continues...
Each year my kids and I have a fun way of disposing of the jack-o-lanterns we carved that year for Halloween. Some of you may remember this, as I have posted on our little tradition in the past. We "carve" the carved pumpkin - with a sword! Usually we'll use a katana for the deed, but this year I let my daughter choose the weapon to dispatch the dastardly pumpkin, and she choose this:
I told her it wasn't that sharp, but she really wanted to give it a try, so we used the cutlas.
Here's the offending gord:
And here she is ready to dispatch it:
The rules are simple: my daughter starts and gets one swing. Then Y2K, then back to my daughter again, and back to Y2K. If they haven't obliterated it by then, the old man gets a whack at it.
Here's Y2K on his second go around. The cut through ol' Jack is from his first swipe.
Amazing how much more fun it is doing this than actually carving these things!

Hey Jay, Have you ever thought of putting the Jack o Lantern on a post and letting the kids cavalry charge it on bicycles
Nah, on second thoughts, you'd never get that past their mom.

Hmmm....
Well, that may give my daughter an incentive to finally loose the training wheels!
We live in a very hilly neighborhood, so they don't bike that often (no friends in the immediate neighborhood either). Their bike skills would need some polishing before I let them hold anything sharp while peddling! Me, on the other hand... we'll, you'll need to wait until next year for those pictures! After all, I do own a calvary saber in my collection!!!

I took our pumpkin to the gun club yesterday and we shot it to pieces with Mosin Finnish Model 39's.

Jay,
The expression on your son's face in the second picture looks like he's doing an impression of 86er
Slicing and dicing old pumpkins looks fun.

You can also put the biggest container that will fit inside them, full of water, inside the punkin, and then shoot it with something potent, like a 7mm Rem Mag or 12 gauge slug.
When the plastic jug or whatever goes, so does the punkin.
That's kind of fun, too.

Kid,
Brings back memories. Its good to see that you teach your children that there are uses for things that other people throw out They will always have money in their pocket.
When my kids were young and the pumpkin got old, I filled it the best I could with water, then shot it with a 53 gr. BRHP out of the 22-250.
Even when I was 5 years old, my mother used to tell my dad that she never saw such a destructive kid.
