Another favorite .30-30 load. QUIET, shhhh.
I received my Bear Creek Supply .30-30 order and ran right out to play. I am a big fan of Bear Creek bullets for plinking/cat sneeze loads. I use them with my various .45-70s, .45-90, .405, .38-55, .375 Win., .475 Linebaugh and .30-30s. Their bullets are soft, moly coated and inexpensive. The bullets I use feature no grease groove. I have found my best results right around 975fps in the rifles and 850fps in the Linebaugh. These loads are quiet, no hearing protection except the Linebaugh, accurate, and very consistent. Trail Boss is my prefered powder. On to the .30-30 load. W/W brass preped with RCBS dies and a Lyman M die(.307" expander), CCI-300 primers as Trail Boss does not require much heat and no sense moving that bullet with too much brisance, Bear Creek 170grFNPB sized .309, and 6.5grs Trail Boss. I seat to the crimp groove(some Marlins have short throats so you may have to play with seating depth) and apply an ever so slight crimp with a Lee FCD. Velocity averages 970fps out of my .30-30s with a small extreme spread and great accuracy. Accuracy, no recoil, quiet, and cost effective. The rifle loads are good back yard plinkers but careful as they do penetrate. Regards. 1886.
