OT - John Wayne joke.

Post by cowboykell »

Clayton Two Bears told this joke at the sale barn today so I think it's OK to repeat. What's the difference between John Wayne and Jack Daniels ????? Jack Daniels is still killing Indians.

It would take a Native American to pull that off to full effect.

Too bad they seem to have more genetic vulnerability there.

Combine that with the way the U.S. Govt re-programmed their youth for several generations, prohibited much of their lifestyle, and encouraged them to become dependent on the Great White Father, and its a wonder any of them survived.

Yep. I grew up near the Northern Cheyenne Res in SE MT. But the poorest place I ever saw was Pine Ridge when I went visit the Wounded Knee site. I have heard that that is the poorest county in the nation.

Unfortunitely the message is true; alcoholism is rampant in the Native American Communitys.

I worked with a guy of Native American heritage and through discussions and a little bit of research he says the white man has NEVER kept a treaty made with the N.A. nations. I believe it...

For the record Pine Ridge isn't a county, Shannon County(#2) and Jackson County (#23) are entirely within the Pine Ridge Reservation( the poorest Indian Reservation) My county(Buffalo, with the Crow Creek Reservation) is the poorest as of the last census, we were number three in 1990. That may change with the new census and Shannon County can gladly have that title back.

To get to the joke, not untrue, I've dumped out enough JD at fatal accidents. In actuality, the ratio of alcoholics on most reservations is no more than the rest of the US population but there does seem to be more binge drinking.
"People who object to weapons aren't abolishing violence, they're begging for rule by brute force, when the biggest, strongest animals among men were always automatically 'right.' Guns ended that, and social democracy is a hollow farce without an armed populace to make it work."

Even thought I grew up in the South West, it's taken me over four decades to realize what a National Treasure that our Native American's are......truly some of the best folks in the world, and a large part of what makes our country so darned interesting.

There does seem to be a genetic componant to the Indian's inability to deal with booze. A friend who was a Dr. for the Indian Health service tells me it is the way their livers process alchohol.

There is also a social/physchological componant to it. After generations of self medicating with hooch for depression, they seem to lack the ability to control their drinking. They drink until they are stumbling drunk.

The Indians in the Andes do the same thing. The purpose of drinking for them is to get drunk. I have lots of horror stories about that kind of thing. The Andean Indians were not treated any better by the Spanards than the American Indians were treated by the "white eyes".

It is a very complex social and historical problem with plenty of blame to go around, but at the end of the day, the whole mess is a crying shame.

I've worked with Indian nations for 15 years and had coworkers from local tribes. They tell me the biggest problem is that all the smart Indians leave the reservation. Leaving a disfunctional group to govern themselves.

A little off subject but has anybody noticed how Obama and his "gang" are busy "programming" the next group for government dependency????

I am part Lakota (Sioux) and yes it does seem when we drink we overdue it. And yes, the white-eyes never did keep any of our treaties either.

I have little trust in our politicians, hence the smaller the government the better I feel. Kick out the old folks and start over....... It will take the new guys time to find out how to work the system, then vote them out too.

Pine Ridge contains some of the descends of Indians that fought at Little Big Horn. As I have always had a bit of a soft spot for American Indians I was on the net looking at the Pine Ridge site, and it listed some of the the problems on the reservation poverty, alcoholism, sexual abuse of the females, and that they were so poor that they had young men doing trade courses as carpenters but they did not have enough money to buy basic tools such as hammers, saws etc. So in the way of a Western Union money order I sent them $50 with my name and address and I fully intended to send them regular money when I could afford it, a check by Western Union revealed that the money had been picked up but I never received anything back from anyone at Pine Ridge, which has always made me wonder what happened to the money, which was disappointing in more ways then one as it would have been special to me to feel I was doing a little bit to help them. I suppose I should give them the benefit of the doubt that there reply went astray in the mail and send them some more money if I don't get a reply second time around then I will know I have been stung.

It's not just Indians. We see the same effect among nations. When the going gets tough the ambituous get going so that increasingly the country becomes dependendent upon the incompetent, corrupt, defeatist remnants. They then try to console themselves and absolve themselves of their complicity in their fate by blaming all their troubles on others. One of their favorite scapegoats is America.
