OT: History Channel Top Shot

Post by JReed »

Sitting here watching Top Shot. I must say that I am proud to see My Marine Corps well represented in the competition. Especially the Lady Marine shooter she is kinda easy on the eyes. :D

I've been watching it. In fact, my seven year old daughter is even into it. The last episode we forced mama to watch it with us, and she even begrudgingly admitted she enjoyed it too.

I forget his name, but the Marine Reserve Sniper guy on the red team is who I'd like to see win it all.

Yep know who you are talking about but I am Pelosie with names. Tonight was the first time I have seen it so I don't have a favorite yet.

I don't really care for the "elimination" method... would that they had the whole losing team shoot whatever the competition was for and eliminated the worst... The "RED" team better get their act together.

I don't think I could watch it live. The show is way more drama than shooting. When I watch it I fast foward through the fluff and just look at the actual shooting (which they don't televise well). They do usually make it an interesting contest.

I like watching exhibition shooters, but not so much competitive shooters. Especially competitive shooters with a penchant for melodrama.

I haven't watch the last episode yet, but really like the show. Have seen nothing but good sportsmanship, especially from those sent home the first two shows.

Blaine, that is why I keep a good gun book or magazine handy. I watch the shooting and gun stuff and read during the "reality" stuff.

Any of us that has ever competed in any of the gun games pretty much knows this show is more made-up than reality.
But, you have to admit you don't see many shows about guns being used in a good wholesome fashion. There is much more negative anti-gun info it's really refreshing to see a show like this. For that reason alone, I really think everyone should support this show.

Hi Ben,
I do have to admit, I'm still having a hard time trying to figure out how the first Red team guy that was X-ed managed to miss a 9" circle at 100yds all 30 times from a rest with an 03 Springfield. Surely the sights had to be loose or the bore was shot out and it was shooting patterns instead of groups. Own the SASS forum they were giving the gal some guff because she couldn't pick up his shots in the spotting scope but the back stop had green foliage on it. that can be really hard to see where the hits were going or pick up the con-trail in it.
I guess I'll always wonder if that was staged for the drama. But I'll keep watching that's for sure.

According to the website and the previews I saw, it's going to be muzzleloaders...
The Good, The Rat and The Ugly Premiere Date: 07/11/2010
Using muzzle-loading weapons from the revolutionary era, contestants compete in an old-fashioned frontier face off. Meanwhile, a heated conflict in one team erupts and plays out in the elimination challenge.

I think next week "The Wild West" are the leverguns. :D

No DOUBT!!! :P :P

Depending on just how they do the loading... the muzzleloaders will be very interesting. If each shooter loads their own, the outcome seems like it would be based as much on their skill at loading as much or more than their shooting skills.

I'm hoping they'll have each shooter load their guns... seems that would be a better test of the "TOP SHOT" title than just shooting skills.

Although they didn't show the loading of the flintlocks... my guess is that their expert, or crew did it. Too bad about the hang-fires... changing rifles in mid-stream like that, may have impacted the outcome. I noticed that all missed shots after changing seemed to be well off to the right, except the one hit by the last blue team member that hit the backer off to the left.

The "cut-the-rope" event for the elimination challenge is one that we've done in various SASS match, back in the day. Super cool using an Uberti '73 for it also. Sometimes as team side events, sometimes as a "man-on-man" event. Fun, but letting them load up the magazine and firin' away would have been just as cool.

Edited: Hope the elimination round next week has the two candidates facing off with a "dueling tree"! :P :P  The trees can be set up with either 2, 3 or 4 targets that swing back from side to side and each competitor tries to get all the targets on his opponents side of the tree at the same time)! Quickness and accuracy take the day. If either or both are or are not fast and accurate, or equally matched reloading assumes new importance!

Next week is SAAs, did I hear that right? These might be my favorite episodes!
