OT small engine forums?

Post by Buffboy »

I know this is out there, a bit. I've got an old 1975 ST16 Sears tractor mower with an equally old Tecumseh 16 hp OHV Single cylinder motor on it. It quit last night and I haven't been able to get it to start again. I plan to get back at it later today but I'm usually able to get most problems fixed in only a few minutes. Bear in mind, I've had this beast for a while, I'm pretty good with small motors and other than the old (dang tough to get parts for anymore) motor it's been a tank. I've been eying a replacement motor made by Powerland for about a year http://www.powerlandonline.com/product/ ... pping.html and unlike most of the replacement motors out there, it looks like it would actually fit in the space of the Tecumseh, most twins won't. They also cost twice+ as much. My problem is I can't find any reviews or user feedback on this motor and I've been looking. My google fu must be weak but there has to be at least a few of these out there now, they are used in quite a few generators but nobody has anything to say about them. Any ideas where to look?

Both of those are vertical engines. I need a horizontal.

Powerland?? I have been making my living as a small engine mechanic at local L&G dealers (3) for the last 35+ years. I have never heard of Powerland before.
There is however lots of Chinese knockoffs coming in lately and just TRY to find parts for that stuff.

The Tecumseh plant in Brazil closed about 4 years ago and many parts are getting impossible to find. I have several setting in the shop waiting for simple little parts and one Troy Bilt tiller (like new) that is in need of a carburetor that will be on backorder till something freezes over. :x

The Roper T62241R3 looks to be the same mower but with a B&S horizontal 16 HP single. http://cgi.ebay.com/ROPER-16hp-garden-t ... _598wt_907

Q: I am looking to repower my mid 70’s Sears ST 16 (Single cylinder OHV 16 HP Tecumseh engine). I’m thinking of using a Briggs Vanguard engine. Have you sold any engines for repowers on the Sears? The engine sits sideways with the drive pulley on the right side. The same garden tractor was also sold with an Onan Twin cylinder engine as the model GT 16 garden tractor.

A: Yes, we can repower that tractor with the V-Twin overhead valve, 18 horsepower Vanguard engine and it will work fine. I have repowered Craftsman tractors before but they have been vertical shaft engines. I have however repowered quite a few set ups that had your same original engine, the Tecumseh.
Kind regards,
Tycer
