Assuming you had the mean$$$... that Patents were not an issue... and profit was not a motive...

What OUT OF PRODUCTION commercial firearms (and mods if you think them appropriate) would you manufacture for sale?

Pick ONE EACH:

Handgun

Shotgun

Edit: My picks are below, but "invisible"... don't cheat... check after you post...

Ruger Old Army
Savage 99C TD - with .358, .308, .243 and 9.3x72R barrels... + box mags in 4, 10 & 20rd ...
Browning A5... "Sweet 16".

Ok then...

1. Handgun, Sorry gents, but I would build an exact copy of a P-38 only chamber it for 45 ACP

2. Rifle, Definitely a Spencer...chambered in .45 Colt, 44-40, or .44 Mag if I could figure out a way.

3. Shotgun, Winchester model 97 20 gauge.

Handgun---S&W Triplelock target in it's original caliber

Rifle---Hands down---'99 Savage

Shotgun---a pre-war double, probably an Ithaca

1st. Gen. Colt SAA’s, 1878 D.A.45 and a 38-55 Marlin TD

Sorry - cheated a lot, couldn't keep to just one. (* next to if "truly" had to keep to just one :-))

Pistol:
- 1st Gen Colt SAA, ca 1920 or so, with "blackpowder" cylinder bevel, etc, but with modern metallurgy. All historic calibers, incl my preferred .44 Special. Add .32-20/.327 convertible. This gun can be replicated in most respects by the USFA "Pre War." If this (Colt request) is cheating--as you can spec most a "close" Pre War/BP features in a new Colt SA,...but the finish and hammer are different, etc-- then:

- S&W Lady Smith 65--no lock, plus add 7 shot .327 Mag variant. Do "something" about the forcing cone issue without resorting to larger/heavier (L frame)
.
- Colt Detective Special, mod'd to accept .357, .327 options. Blued, matte and glossy stainless.

* - Ruger Single Six .32 Mag (made in .327 to accept H&R's as well)-- in adjustable and fixed sight Vaquerito)
(Yes, I know I cheated with more than one)

Rifle:
* "Two in one" :-)
- Winchester 1892 and 1894 - Pre War SRCs, ca 1915 or so, full carbine features, obviously no safety. No changes except latest metallurgy, .44 Mag, .45 Colt, .357 Mag and .327 Mag offerings add to the traditional/historic ones for the '92. There may be a few worthwhile cartridges to add to the '94 (7x30, .35 Rem, others) but otherwise I have no qualms with the good ol' .30-30.

- Remington Mountain Rifle DM/blued

- Original GI Spec/quality M1 Carbine--full late war/Korea features; add 10mm option.

- Ruger PC carbines, lightened 1/2 lb, add .45 and 10mm options.

Oops - cheating again with multiples!

Shotgun:
- Ithaca 37 16 Ga - they may "still" make 'em but not to my quality satisfacion!

Handgun: Old Model Ruger Blackhawk in all the original Colt and Winchester calibers with modern sized chambers and proper throats.

Rifle: Pre-War Winchester 1894 in all the original calibers and some of the new ones.

Shotgun: Winchester 1897 ( That's the pump gun right?)

All of them made with old world care and craftsmanship that was the vogue at the turn of the last century.

For my handgun; a LeMat revolver chambered for .41 Magnum and 20 gauge, or a Broomhandle Mauser in 45acp. I can't decide.

For my rifle, it would be a Remington Model 8 in .35 Remington.

My "new production" shotgun would be the Winchester Model 12 in 12 gauge.

Changed the caliber to 44 Russian - so it would for sure fit w/o having to lengthen the cylinder.... but 44 Special if it would fit... I just groove on those Webleys. I need to find one...

I have an AK-47 semi-auto type III (third iteration) build on a Russian kit that is very similar but it would be cool to make the original design with the slab-side mags and everyting. Its heavier and shoots much different than the later stamped steel receiver models.

The M97 Win is just a classic design and I think a quality, US-made repro is needed. And why not the trenchgun model?

I don't know if I think this is easy or not, but today's choices are:

1. Colt Commander 1911, in bright Colt blue with reliability mods and ivory grips.
2. Ruger #1 med. Sporter (1-S) in .308 with 22" barrel and open sights.
3. Super High grade Beretta Imperial Montecarlo in 20 ga.

or

1. Colt SAA .45 Colt, 4 1/2", Blue with ivory
2. Winchester 1892, .45 Colt
3. 20 ga. Greener 20", exposed hammer coach gun

Tomorrow may be different

I'll play.

Handgun, A pair of Webley Fosberrys in .455 webley, I know where there is one for sale, but at $7000, it's just a bit out of reach. I'd have to try and find another.

Rifle, left handed Weatherby in .458 win mag. As far as I know they only made them right handed.

Shotgun, Perazzi O/U five barrel set. They only make a four barrel set, and I think a 10 ga would be a great addition.

So I'd be looking at probably six figures for the bunch, but a man can dream. Hmm, gotta check that lottery ticket.

Handgun- Ruger Single Six Flatgate 22LR with walnut stocks. Mine will have a 5.5" barrel
Rifle- Remington 03A3 with C stock. I love these old rifles
Since I have no idea which shotgun, I'll pick another handgun- Colt Anaconda in 45 Colt with a 5 or 6 inch barrel. Since S&W can have a 44 Magnum double action, it's only fitting to have a double action Colt in 45 Colt

Rifle: A Win. 92 in 44 Mag., octagon barrel of 20 inches, made of Chrome Moly blued steel or Win. 95 in '96, in the carbine config.
Pistol: Ruger Flat Top 44 exactly as offered in the original model, with the improved metallurgy of later Ruger SA's.
Shotgun: Remington Mod. 1900 Side by Side in 16 or 12 Gauge, made of Chrome Moly blued steel.
