If I owned those two and could only keep one of them, I think I would keep the 92.

Well you can load down a 30-40, you can't load up a 38-40 to 30-40 velocity.
Re: Which lever would you keep?
I'll take ham and eggs - over light, thank you. I had grits yesterday.

Depends on what you need in a rifle. All other things equal, I agree with Ted - I'd keep the '92...

Sell them both and get whatever it is you really want.
Re: Which lever would you keep?
Guess I'm once again the odd man out. I'd move the 92 along, and take that unfired 95 out and shoot it. It needs good sights of course, which means drilling and tapping for a receiver sight, and getting a sling on it. I could do far far more with a 30-40 than a 38-40.
Old Savage may be onto something tho, neither would be my first choice, but you asked which of those two.

Depends on what I want to use it for. I'd probably lean towards the '95.

Re: Which lever would you keep?
Any older gun will grow in value more than a modern one. If it is a 85% Winchester 92, there is no doubt which one I would keep, the 92. Just my two cents.

Re: Which lever would you keep?
I'd keep the 92, get myself a mold for the proper bullet, and continue using it for deer hunting--the way its previous owners most likely did.

Re: Which lever would you keep?
I'd keep the 92 Winchester cos it's a Winchester not a Miroku.

Re: Which lever would you keep?
I would keep the 92 since it is an original, though the 30-40 is more versatile. I use my 92 for just about all my shooting with a rifle.

Re: Which lever would you keep?
Part of your answer is in the responses so far.
If you need money now, the '92 will probably sell quicker, plus there's likely a larger pool of buyers.
If you need a using rifle, the greater portion of the '95's value is in its condition; it will lose more in use than will the '92, which with proper care will continue to escalate, even if its condition suffers a little more wear.
Lots of other variables make giving advice hard. If one was a gift, keep it; if purchased from a friend, keep that one; good luck.

I'd keep the 95, myself.

Re: Which lever would you keep?
You should sell the 92, but only if you're going to sell it to me for 50 bucks. If you don't want to sell the 92 to me, sell the Browning. I agree with Rangerider7. No new gun (short of a Cooper, G&H, H&H, etc.) could compare to a pre-'64 Winchester in good shape.
There's two kinds of lever action rifles - those designed by J.M. Browning, and those that are inferior.

Re: Which lever would you keep?
Good morning
I would KEEP the 92 in my FAVORITE 92 antigue caliber 38 WCF.
Lets face it.. if you are going woods walking or swamp tromping which rifle are you going to carry ? Do you even shoot the Browning ? What good is a rifle IF you are not gonna shoot it ?

Either. Just be sure to wear something. People are eating, fer cryin' out loud.
1988rrc: Terry begs the question what you intend for the gun you will keep. If I assume that you will shoot whatever you keep, I would keep the 1895. You can load it down with 10-12 gr of Unique under a 200 to 220 gr cast bullet and have a great small game or plinker, or you can stoke it to the limit and have slightly better than 30-30 performance. That'd be my choice, the 1895.
Noah
Might as well face it, you're addicted to guns . . .
Re: Which lever would you keep?
I don't think you could have asked an easier question - well maybe, would you take a Freedom Arms Model 83 or an RG revolver would be easier. Keep the 95 in 30/40 Krag. Good gun made by a good maker chambered in a good cartridge that can still be easily acquired that can be used to hunt anything in America.
If the question is "value" based, then sell them both and get something you can use.
