Just wondering what the procedure for flying on an aircraft with a weapon and ammunition. Im assuming if it is a handgun you can store it in your luggage as long as its not carryon. Is this correct? Also im curios about ammunition. Do you store it in the luggage as well? Sry if this has aready been asked.

Life is a storm, my young friend. You will bask in the sunlight one moment, be shattered on the rocks the next. What makes you a man is what you do when that storm comes.

I've done it several times. The gun has to be in a locked hard sided container inside your checked luggage and you maintain control of the key. Your suitcase does not have to be locked. The ammo can be in the same container as the gun as long as the gun is not loaded. The rounds cannot be loose. I ususally take bullets in the factory box or leave the magazines loaded. It's fine as long as the magazines are not inserted. Some airlines will simply ask if it's loaded, other may have you show them.
When you check in, simply tell them you have a firearm to declare. After they check it, they will have you sign a slip of paper that goes in the case. Usually it takes no more time than ususal. Some airlies are a little different so just check onlie what their rules are prior to flying.

Firearms have to be checked in seperate approved firearms case, they need to be unloaded.
Be sure and check with the airline you're flying on as to how much ammo you can have in the baggage. It's usually something like 11lbs,

Firearms have to be in a hard, lockable case. It is okay to put a handgun inside it's hard/locked case into another piece of luggage that is also lockable. Ammo has to be in original factory packaging, cardboard packaging that separates each cartridge, or a hard plastic box made for cartridges. The limit is 11 pounds. There is no law against ammo and firearms in the same case but some airlines require them to be separated.
