Arizona Constitutional Carry is Law. Gov. signed bill today

Post by Lefty Dude »

We in Arizona will now be able to carry concealed with out a CCW, in Arizona only.
We now join Alaska, and a few other States with this in their State Constitution.

Good for you guys!
The sad thing is that I likely will never see something like that in the State of Kalifornia.

Another provision of the new law will grant a CCW Permit on a shall-issue basis to those who can show a history of firearms training, to include current and past military service. That's great news also.

Best,

Just reminder to those in Arizona the measure signed today should {take effect 90 days "after the current legislative session ends", which likely puts the effective date in July or August.}

You would be surprised how many people after hearing this law just passed just assume they can just start carrying like that now.

Madman is right--a lot of folks are already talking like they can carry immediately. Also, a permit is still needed for carry in liquor establishments/bars 'n such. Someone mentioned in a related thread here or elsewhere that a permit is still required in federal (I.e., national) parks as well.

Kinda like the National Health Care bill... People are DEMANDING "free" health services NOW!!!

The CCW law makes a H*ll of a lot more sense, IMO

clarification about carry in national parks, it's the State's carry laws that apply. so WA state might have different carry laws than AZ, but they each apply in the respective state parks. that's my understanding, if I understand it.

GOOD FOR ARIZONA, IT'S ABOUT TIME.

Terrific!

On the 25th of April, there's supposed to be an
"open carry" event in Portland, Maine.

The new police chief there is from Los Angeles.

He'll be getting an education, eh?

I just might have to go to watch the fun....

That's great! They are working on ours too, but so far all that's managed to come front and center is lowering the CCW minimum age from 23 to 21.

I'm not happy about it.

When I got my Arizona CCW it was a 2 1/2 day qualification course run by training officers from the local PD's.
The first 2 days were classroom instruction including the shoot-don't shoot video machine then a half day on the range.
Everyone was given a rights and responsibilities pamphlet written by the Attorney General in plain english.
We were not only evaluated for skill but, also for temperament and judgement.
Now any yahoo can carry concealed.

What about visitors?

Back in 2000 I went to visit foolks in Arizona, and New Mexico before going to a convention in Colorado. Before the trip, i called the AG office in Arizona and New Mexico and got the same answer.
Anybody can openly carry a loaded sidearm in this state. If you don't have a permit from our state, any concealed weapon must be unloaded.
i had no problem with that. I either packed my M-686 openly and loaded, or my M-640 unloaded in a pocket backed by a speedloader.

How is it now under the new rules? Do visitors have the same right as long as they are US Citizens?
