A couple of Winchesters...
Good morning ya’ll -- A neighbor from up the highway stopped by the other day with a Winchester ’94 carbine (30-30) he had just acquired. He was told it was a 1974 vintage gun. It was sorely abused. Scratches all over the metal, no finish left over the dents in the stocks, and apparently they set a few steel fence posts with it, adding some non-skid to the steel butt plate.
In the course of a little conversation, and shooting, he thought he’d like to get a tang sight installed. I had it ready for him the next day. I adjusted the windage zero and suggested he bring some ammunition he planned to use and we could finish sighting it in. He brought six rounds of some unknown vintage or bullet weight. I took a wild guess on the initial elevation setting and he hunkered down over the sticks and proceeded to shoot two, three shot clover leafs, on the point of aim at 100 yards!! Well that got my attention for sure.
He allowed as he thought the gun might be a good shooter and wondered if I could get the stocks squared away some. He’ll be back today from bringing some horses up from Arizona. I’ve got his rifle ready and thought I’d snap a picture if it with my 1906 vintage carbine. Mine is on the right. His rifle looks like a well used tool and I hope he’s happy with it.
Just a post to help out with breakfast in case you’ve already read the Wheaties box ten times… Best regards. Wind

Your neighbor is awful lucky to have you as a friend, Wind. Good on ya. The carbine looks good too. He should be tickled pink.

You know, sometimes I think Winchester should have supplied '94s with stacking swivels, you know like on '03/A3s.

Hey Sixgun - His rifle does rattle, but it does shoot good!! That isn't the original barrel on mine. It shoots everything into one hole at fifty yards, so I came to grips with it and refuse to let a little adulterated history get to me!!! Best regards. Wind

Very nice brace of carbines!

Re: A couple of Winchesters...
Hey there Old Savage - I'm not sure what Landon had for ammo. The six rounds were in a plastic holder and looked to be the same vintage as the rifle ('74). They were probably under a pick up seat for that long judging by their appearance!! For me, 10 grains of Unique under a 170 grain gas checked bullet works very well. If I want to whack something harder, farther, 26 plus grains of 3031 with the same bullet works well also. Hope this helps. Best regards. Wind

You done good Wind you sound like the kind of neighbour we all need, bet your neighbour will be happy when he gets back. Bringing some horses up from Arizona that sure does sound like a fun trip, would loved to have been on that one.
