Range Report: COLD Shots / HOT Marlin

Post by Pete44ru »

Some of you may remember when I posted pics of a 1955 Model 39a I bought this past November, that had a Weaver scope mounted.

I wanted to revert back to a tried/true receiver peep sight, soooo, I bought/installed a used Williams 5D from a forum member - and benched it to sight it in, with Federal bulk LR from WallyWorld at my GC this AM.

It was pretty chilly - about 26 degrees - but calm & sunny.

After I got it zeroed (about 10 rounds), I shot this 50yd group - which makes me a pretty happy camper.

Now, all I have to do is replace a bad magazine hanger - and this one's gonna stay here for awhile. :)

Doesn't matter how accurate a rifle is. If the guy that's shooting it can't shoot, then he might as well have a slingshot. In your case, you can shoot and your rifle is up to your capabilities.

Good shooting and nice rifle.

There is real joy in shooting a rifle like that. Congrats!

Yup,... there's weapon ability to be accurate, and. then there is shooter ability to be accurate.

Always nice to see the two come together,... good shoot'n!!

Shooting a crappy group like that is a strong indication there is something drastically wrong with that rifle. I am a highly qualified gunsmith, you better send that rifle out to me and let me examine it for you for a few years, maybe I can figure out what is wrong with it. :D

Thanks for all the kind words. :)

The little group was a three-shot, BTW - They were all I had left in the mag after zeroing, so I decided to try for a tight group to check the zero ILO unloading the mag tube manually (before I left the range for home)

The only gun pics I have, are from when I bought it - before I mounted the Williams 5D this morning & went to my GC.

I pulled the Weaver off just B 4 Christmas, prior to putting it up for auction/sale.

I'll think about it, Terry - After all, your offer's gettin close to what I laid out for the rifle/scope combo ! ;)

Darn good shootin' there, Pete! Young eyes for an old timer! They don't make coins big enough for me to see at 50 yds!
