Patience Pays Off
My daughter and I had a good hunt this morning just south of Junction City, Kansas. Action started pretty quick this morning with about 50 turkey moving around. Finally around 0700 there were a few small does that started to appear. She shot her 1st Doe last season and was determined to get a buck this year. Around 0730, we had a couple small bucks that came in, 2- small sixes, 1- 4 point, and a spike. Yep, more action than I normally ever see! I asked her several times if she wanted to take one of the 6 points. She said, "NO, I want something bigger; its not the last day of the season and we have plenty of time to take a doe later". We were both a bit worried when all of the deer disappeared for a few minutes but finally returned back into sight.
Her patience paid off, at 0815 a nice 8 point strolled in. It took a few minutes for him to offer her a shot but she held out until the right opportunity presented itself. The buck went down immediately and only one shot was required.
The buck was the icing on the cake! The best part about this season was spending time together at the range, as well as we reloaded the bullets that she used to take the buck. 240 grn LRNFP with 10.3 grn of Tight Group! The gun is an 1894 Marlin .44 magnum that my dad gave me years ago which officially became hers today.

Her smile says it all! It’s always good to hear of hunting traditions passing down to children and even more so when they are gals.

If my niece ever gets over spending so much free time with boys I might have a shot at taking her.
Well done girl

She'll have a proud day and family experience to remember for her whole lifetime. She'll be a far more interesting and achieving individual in life due to experiences like these.

Re: Patience Pays Off
Thanks for all the positive comments! She really got a kick out of all of them! She will be 13 in Feb. I also have another daughter that doesnt hunt. She will go shooting with me but has no desire to kill animals or endure the cold! It just makes me have other intrest to keep me well rounded.

Way to go both of you! I would guess it is official about the carbine though.
