Back in February my dad passed away unexpectedly. He and my seven year old son were pretty close. Dad had always promised my son he would give him his Winnie 45 Colt rifle when it was the right time. Well I guess this wasn't what my dad meant but now we have the gun. Logan(my son) has always had a fascination with lever guns. He has a couple of 22's and a 30-30 waiting on him. But somehow this gun is his dream gun. So this season he wanted to kill his first deer with Grump's gun(My dad). I made a post about a good semi mild load as I do not load for the 45 Colt. This is where Kooz comes in, he answered my post and after a few questions he said he could load just what I needed. He sent me the loads at a VERY reasonable price and to say the least they have worked very well. My son killed his very first deer opening weekend. He shot the doe absolutely perfect at 40 yds and she went about 30 yards and was done. He was so proud of himself and I was prouder than you will ever know. This past weekend we went back to the lease and he killed his first buck, another 40 yard shot and a 15 yard recovery. Kooz's load of 9.7 grains of Unique and a 260 grain flat point bullet did an awesome job on these two deer. I have to say a heart felt thanks to Steve for making this load for me. I have to admit I cry like a baby when I see the pic of Logan with dads gun. Somehow I know dad was with him with both deer. Sorry for the long post and thanks again to Kooz, I really appreciate your help.

Great Post! That is honestly what it is all about! Passing our traditions and values to our future generations! The only thing greater than taking a first buck with a levergun is taking it with your granddads levergun!

Man, that is just awesome! Congratulate your son for me! And congratulations to you for raising your son to be a man! My father passed away 6 years ago and I cried the day my son shot a squirrel with my pop's old 22. My hat's off to KOOZ, also!
What a great story Kelly ! you and your son will have some great memories of this hunt. Glad I was able to help out with the ammo and glad the hunt worked out so well for you guys.

We are determined that before the sun sets on this terrible struggle, our flag will be recognized throughout the world as a symbol of freedom on the one hand, of overwhelming power on the other.
Excellent! What a super memory for your son of using his grandfather's rifle and harvesting two deer.

Congratulations! You can't ask for anything better than your son taking two animals and with an heirloom from Grandpa. Good on you for getting him outdoors and hunting. You have a right to feel good about that.
I reckon Granpa is really busy up there telling this story day and night. You did real good by your son starting him out like this. Thanks to Kooz too.

Congratulations to your youngster! That is a special hunt with a special rifle. Two deer in a season with a sentimental value of astronomic proportions!
