New lever gun guy

Post by AkHunter45-70 »

A good friend of mine, Marc Taylor, told me about this forum so I had to come and check it out for myself. Lots of cool info and pictures here and i'm hoping to add a few of my sometime soon. I currently own a Marlin 336C in 30-30 and a Sears/Winchester model 94 also in 30-30. After handling Marc's guide gun I have decided to spend some of my tax return on a new Marlin SS GG in 45-70. Can't wait to get it and get her dialed in for my spring brown bear hunt.

No one here going to fault you for getting a new Guide Gun. I think the govt. should require it of every citizen to buy one.

Welcome to the fire, pull up a log and sit a spell. I haven't been a member of this forum long but I’ll tell you it didn't take me long to see the most knowledgeable people on the web hang out here. With one exception, me.

Welcome, where abouts you located up there? I spent 10 years up there between Juneau and Eagle River. Moved back to the lower 48 last year. Been second guessing that move ever since driving thru Utah in August. I carried a Marlin 45-70 while I walked the woods up there. Never got to shoot a brownie cause everytime I saw one, she had cubs. Great bunch here, pull up a chair and sit awhile.

Looks like Marc was right, this has got to be one of the friendliest sites i've ever joined! I'm looking forward to getting that GG and getting it modded for some close up and personal brown bear action. I'll post some pics when I get with a little Alaska scenery behind it.

A little something about my friend, AkHunter45-70...

First, he talks a good purchase; as you are experiencing. He'll have to come into my store a couple more times and cycle my GS, drink my coffee, and talk about how he'll approach the wife with the idea... and so on.

Secondly, he's a great guy, a hard-hunter of Alaska, who really gets out and lives it. He'll be a great addition to this board. :D

Is there some kind of finder's fee if he turns out to be a supplier of great info and pictures? :?:

If so, then contact me personally!

Welcome, John!

LOL........thanks for the welcome brother, I appreciate it! Wife approval is not necessary this time, it's been a long time since I bought a new rifle and i've been working p/t at night to help pay for it. Funny thing about the wife, she'll want to go shoot it once I get it.........man those 420 gr Garrett HH's are gonna hurt her!!

AKHunter,
Trust my brother, Marc Taylor, in his advice. My choice is a Win. Big
Bore in .444 Marlin. A 45.70 is just as nice.

No Sir. I've sworn off "old girlfriends;" my current preference is for young ones! I'm currently courting a 2006 production:
