OT- Photos of holster rigs

Post by rangerider7 »

I was taking some shots of some of my holster rigs for insurance purposes this morning. I thought y'all might want to see them. I'm a nut for leather.

Real fine looking rigs. What are the dates on #4, the Odell Bros?

JerryB, the dates are when my dad's four brothers and himself started an annual get together to shoot, hunt and barbecue. All the families come. It officially started in 1954 and we had a 40th anniversary in 1994. I had a friend make them all buckles plus me one. We still keep it up but only one brother remains and he is 92. This may be the last one this year. Not as many relatives are into dove hunting and guns as in the past. My last uncle can't hear or see well enough to hunt safely. Lots of memories! I guess it will turn into just my kids and grand kids plus my two sisters kids and grand kids. Then we will grow from there. :D

I like # 2 the best. All pretty amazing though.

It appears some very fine beef made the ultimate sacrifice for that fine collection. I must give the beeves credit for contributing to excellent craftsmanship. That leather appears to have been well cared for.

AJMD429, #2 belonged to a sheriff in Eddy County New Mexico. He served 4 terms in the late 30s and 40s. Eddy County is on the Texas border in deep West Texas.

Wouldn't it be nice if the holster could talk? Such history is fascinating.

I've posted a few old family photos before, and it would be wonderful to transport back in time 120 years and talk to those people.

I like the style on #1, but I like the style and history of #2. I grew up in the part of Texas Eddy County joins and had family in Carlsbad and Artesia (New Mexico).
