I made the cover of the SD reader for Open Carry in San Diego and I thought I would share that with you all.

Leverguns.com relevant because I have a Puma 92 to match the Tracker! (I will OC that Puma one day too :) )

Having to open carry unloaded is an irony, but at least some people have the guts to do what needs doing.
Kudos.
Loaded open carry is lawful here in Pa (no permit required), and many folks here are doing it for the same reasons as the California folk - to bring awareness to the public and law enforcement.

Crazy Californians. Your laws are .......... interesting. Carrying an unloaded Glock is like carrying a plastic brick; not much use. Oh yeah, you just call, "Time Out!" when accosted so you have enough time to load your weapon.

I'm sorry that your state government limits your right to protect yourself like that. Here in Colorado, we are a 'Shall Issue' state so a CCW is obtainable and my G23 sits comfortably at the 4:00 position locked and loaded with 180grn Speer GDs if needed.

If it was me, i could probably open the revolver and stuff in a speedloader faster than slamming a mag home and racking the slide, --- but it would be a close race

Not that I would ever carry an empty revolver (except in cases as described in the article) but I wish I could find a decent speedloader for my SP101. The only brand I've found is more likely to dump its rounds in the pocket/pouch or on the way to the gun than in the gun...

I use Speed Strips for reloads, but still...

It wouldn't take that long to load; don't forget a lot of perps would just wait for you to walk by if they see a gun.

Also, a lot of life-saving situations involve the gun-toter coming to the aid of another person. Like a battered wife getting stabbed in Walmart, or remember the grocery market holdup scene in "Taxi Driver"?

Anyway, it's better than nothing.

I guess we could do that too in LA, just be ready to do a lot of explaining.

I'm a pessimist. Much like in a local bank robbery a couple of years ago, the first guy to get capped/the way they announced the robbery was to shoot the guy with a visible gun (the working stiff guard)...

I know that if I was walking into a place intent on doing evil, unless there were SEVERAL visibly armed persons my way of making an introduction would be to shoot the guy with the gun...

That's why I prefer Concealed Carry where/because most other people don't/won't carry at all, much less openly.

An interesting positive article.

Too bad the unconstitutional restrictions on carry are so stupid. But we do have to walk a fine line to stay out of jail and avoid bad publicity.

When I leave WA, is generally an empty JFrame with a couple speed loaders handy, But I could see a small Secamp or NAA auto with the mags close to hand, too.

Good article and well done by yourself to be a part of it.

It wouldn't hurt if some of us e-mailed the journalist politely thanking her for not doing the usual slash-and-burn stereotyping of gun owners. Once in awhile we may educate a journalist, and have one more on our side, or at least NOT on the anti-gun side.

california, being what it has become, i wonder if a large scale
advertising campaign would make a difference. if a big name
designer would turn out, say gucci holsters and such.
maybe tv ads, safe carry is safer for you too. radio ads,
make your hood safer, open carry.

i think your beach bum

careful what you wish for, you might just get it.

All it would take would be to make carrying fashionable for the ladies, that they need it to be safe, and denying them that is anti-woman.

one must keep in mind the mindset of current day legislators when addressing "open carry".

most are paranoid, and most know little to nothing, about firearms except they feel threatened by them. feinstein is a classic example. she does NOT want you and i to have firearms at all, yet, she herself, has a CCW...if she was on the "up and up" why would she want to carry concealed? what does she have to fear? hmmmmm...maybe she wants to be able to defend herself should she need to...a concept that seems alien to her and others when it comes to you and i, though...(IMO, she's knows she's such a crappy legislator she fears for her life...)

public school systems have not helped the cause either. openly fearlful of ANY thing for one to defend ones self with: "Zero tolerance" programs that are so extreme it's beyond belief. suspending students for DRAWING a picture of a firearm. how paranoid is that? one school in northern california destroyed the archery equipment it used to use to have archery classes with being fearful because of "zero tolerance".

i lived and worked in san diego for many years. when we came there in the early 50's it was not uncommon to see someone carrying a firearm. nowdays...good grief, SWAT, Sherriff, SDPD, marines, army, NG, FBI, border patrol, hiway patrol all show up if some poor slob is seen with a rifle in a rifle rack in the window of his truck. after all; anyone who is NON LE or military MUST be a terrorist or 'bad guy' if they have a firearm...right? even if we do have the second amendment.

california state legislature has taken paranoia to it's greatest height to date.

in short...firearms are being demonized by a few out of their fear, lack of knowledge and paranoia.

Mr. Concerned Citizen would not have confronted the carriers if they were wearing shades, black knit caps, and covered with tattoos. He would not want to admit it but it speaks volumes that he was not intimidated (because there was no threat).

not to highjack the thread ... have you though about moon clips for your sp101
I had my redhawk done, six in six out in one clump, and you can still load without
the clip if you wish ..

I had it done here : http://www.pinnacle-guns.com/revolver.asp
I only needed to send in the cylinder, quick turn around.

clips were bought here : http://www.tkcustom.com/cart/shopdispla ... um+-+Ruger

just a thought !!!!!

You know, if I had to carry Empty like the OC folks in Cali do, I might just do that. But since I "get" to keep the hammer down on 5 on a CCW, if I need a reload the Speed Strips will suit me fine... they conceal better.

But it's a cool option.
