Rangerider great pics, will you do me a favour please and swing that great looking old saddle around and take a few of it just love them old saddles, spend a hell of a lot of time on the Amon Carter Museum site looking at all the Erwin Smith old Texas Ranch Pictures, just bought a Erwin Smith book from them, in fact I bought three one each for two of my mates.

OK. This is my latest .33 WCF Model 1886. It was offered a few weeks ago by our very own levers, and I simply could not pass it up. A full magazine '86 for about what a '94 would go for. Let's see, '94, or '86? Hmmm. Which would you rather own? For me, it was a no brainer. BTW, it letters exactly as you see it:D

Here are two from NKJ, Rossi and Ruger. Hate to say I had to sell the Ruger and break up the set, but needed the funds. Once the gun went, so did the belt and holster...and found homes right here around the camp fire so that made it feel a bit better.

I went out to the drive way and snapped a couple decent ones.

The Win 9422 w/ the 7.5" Blackhawk in .45

And next we have the same 9422 w/ the 7.5" (adjustable sights) Ruger Old Army in .45

These are not a pair, but they are of the same year and caliber. Both 1903 and .44 WCF. The 1892 no ring carbine was sent back to Winchester in the late 1930s for a "makeover", which included a new barrel. That's why it has the scarce hooded ramp front sight. The little carbine is another score from around the campfire.

Kimwcook, tell me about the knife. The blade looks interesting. It that some sort of damascus? Of so, it the first vertical one I've seen.

Jeep, I designed the knife and had Steve Brooks make it clear back in '92, I think. It's ladder patterned damascus/pattern welded steel. I have another one I designed and had Steve make with the same patterned steel, but it's a big'un. It's a 12 inch blade. I don't have any pics of it, yet. Again, one of those pics I need to take.

Here's a few "pairs" I've come up with over the years (some duplicates in photos, and others I've traded off by now

Ruger Super Blackhawk and Marlin 1894 - .44 Mags
...and before any 'scopophobic' says anything - the 10 point buck my 13 year old kid shot with it did NOT laugh at the big 50mm scope on it!

Ruger Blackhawk and Puma - .357 Mags
...and yes, I did finally take the AR-15 IR scope off the gun - we were just playing and trying different sights; the little rifle was really accurate!

Ruger Single Six and Ruger 96/22 - .22LR's
...and NO, the little lever-gun STILL has the silly red-dot scope and flash-suppressor - dead raccoons didn't laugh either.

S&W 10 and Marlin 1889 - .32-20's
...sorry - DA not SA, but 'vintage'

Ruger Redhawk and Marlin 1894 - .44 Mags
...oops - another DA - but they are my FAVORITE "pair" - both have gotten decent deer for me - I love STAINLESS for working guns!

Just so you won't think my stainless infatuation has made me forget my roots, here's an 'earlier' picture of the Marlin 1889
...this was taken 'in our yard' about 115 years ago - grandma and great-grandpa there, too!

...see I told you the buck didn't laugh at that big-belled scope!

I have been able to afford some cool guns by living in a house like this up until around age forty
...everything but the windowless block shell and roof we did ourselves - interior, plumbing, electric, etc...

This one's been around a few times, but it's all I have for now. 1895 in 303, 71, and Blackhawk 45 LC. These are the guns that have accompanied me on my big game hunts for the past several years.

Pokey, winchester 1886: The saddle is an old "turn of the century" R.T. Frazier saddle made in Pueblo Colorado. The cowboy that used it put a piece of iron very neatly on the swell so he could scratch his kitchen matches to light his hand rolled Bull Durham cigarettes. I will put a couple more photos of the saddle on tomorrow.

I generally just accept the differences and deal with folks hanging stuff on a levergun, but the part that bugs me is, you did it to Winchesters, when you had Marlins you coulda hung 'em on! Marlins are ugly as issued; Winchesters are graceful tools of utility!

BTW, I admire the fact that you chose to live in something you could afford, until you could pay for something better. Wanna try convincing my wife that that's the way to go?

pretty distinctive styles that came out of that area.

This is a place I used to live.

This is home now.

Grouse hunting with a 94 Winchester up on the mountain.

Browning 86 carbine and Ruger 45. The carry guns for summer when the bears are out up on the mountain.

The Ruger 45 that goes most often, with some 300-something gr bear loads.

The nice thing about my liking the ugly little Ruger lever actions, is whenever a Marlin or Winchester guy picks on me, I can escape by getting you to go after each other. Someday I'm going to (maybe just with Photoshop) get a weaver base on a Marlin, and mount one of those AR-15 detachable carry handles on it, put a siderail accessory on it, a Holosight up on top of the rail, and laser and light on the side rail, maybe add a bayonet somehow. Whenever someone gripes about a simple scope on a levergun, I'll post THAT pic, just to give them some acid reflux...!

If I really wanted to be sadistic, I'd start with a Winchester

but that might get me thrown off the forum, even if it was just Photoshopped.

We're still in that house, 22 years into practice, but added siding and dormers so the upstairs would be more useable for bedrooms (wife went and kept popping out children, and wouldn't let me keep all four of them in the barn

Here's a picture of my .22 LR Ruger Bearcat

Although not a picture of the actual .22 LR Ruger 96/22 that I own, I own one just like it.

Those are the only lever action & single action matched caliber guns that I own. I do have a scope mounted on my 96/22. Both are good, solid, accurate, guns and a hoot to shoot.

I can't help grudgingly liking those ugly little bastards; they're pretty slick handling and, IMHO, would be a dandy truck gun.

If you'd had central heat, you mighta stayed off of her, once in a while! The house I wanna build someday is kinda what you're gonna end up with, but I was thinking French doors on both ends, and possibly, a 360 degree deck, so I could "Walk the parapet".

We built it so there are places we could 'expand' it if needed, but never quite got up the financial steam. By the time we do, the kids will all be off somewhere, so it won't matter. (One of their bedrooms might make a dandy reloading room...

Tried to take a couple shots of the Randall,....will have to do it later. I find it much more difficult to take decent pictures with a digital compared to a good 35mm SLR. The image in the veiwfinder or tiny screen is so poor compared to the 35.

Randall and Ruger 45. I don't recall the model of the Randall, it was described as a combination hunter/fighter pattern. The back edge can be sharpened shaving sharp. The ivory micarta handle has aged out nicely in the 20 some years I've had it.

Fair mistake, but no; it's a "Blackjack" #7. I picked up at a ShotShow in Dallas back in the early '90s. It is patterned off the Randall #1. It's a carbon steel blade and, I think, a well-made knife. I'm more than pleased with my $70 investment.
