TAKE THE GUN POLL
IF YOU COULD (ONLY) HAVE 1 GUN THAT YOU "ALREADY OWN" AND THATS IT FOR ALL YOUR HUNTING/SHOOTING NEEDS WHAT WOULD IT BE???? (WHICH WOULD YOU KEEP)
I WILL BE KIND AND MAKE IT A LITTLE EASIER IN THAT YOU ALSO CAN KEEP 1 HANDGUN FOR SELF DEFENSE CARRY ONLY.
ALSO 1 GUN WHICH MUST STAY IN YOUR HOME AND YOU CAN KEEP FOR SENTIMENTAL REASONS.CANNOT HUNT WITH IT AND ONLY TARGET SHOOT WITH IT A COUPLE TIMES A YEAR .
CHOOSE YOUR WEAPONS WISELY???????

Re: TAKE THE GUN POLL
First off this isn't a "POLL", it is a fishing expeditions. Second, all caps is the equivalent of YELLING on the net. Third, it's not gonna happen so whats the point?
Re: TAKE THE GUN POLL
My 356 Winchester can do it all, and would be my go-to rifle. I can go from bunnies to bears pretty easily.
My original Flat Top 44 Ruger as my pistola
My sentimental gun would have to be either of my Grandfather's Single Shot 12 Gauge's. Be a nice housewarming gun if the bad people come to see where I've buried all the rest of them!

Now bear, did you take your medicine today??
Sorry about the caps and (yelling at you)SURE DID NOT WANT TO!
I was just curious as to what type make/model/age guns that
different people feel if they DID have a choice they would pick.
Now again sorry about the YELLING, and you can go back to watching your Soap Operas!!

Re: TAKE THE GUN POLL
Of the guns I own, that's easy.
Rossi .357
SP101 .357
If I had it it would be a 16x16x.357 Drilling, but I don't have it...
So until I got it gun 3 would be my 16x16x9.3-72R.

Re: TAKE THE GUN POLL
I don't usually answer these kinds of threads because just one won't do it. Not even for me and I believe in the K.I.S.S. principle, and am rapidly becoming a minimalist.
NOW, AS FOR THE ALL CAPS THERE ARE SEVERAL REASONS FOR THEM.
>SOMETIMES SOMEONE WANTS TO MAKE A POINT.
>SOMETIMES THEY HAVE VISION PROBLEMS AND JUST CAN'T SEE THE LOWER CASE LETTERS AS WELL.
>SOMETIMES THEY USE THE HUNT AND PECK METHOD AND TRYING TO USE THE CONTROL KEY IS A PITA.
SO, JUST READ IT AND DON'T WORRY ABOUT WHAT CASE LETTERS ARE BEING USED.
AFTER ALL THERE ARE THOSE WHO TYPE IN COLORS AND HUGE TEXT,andthenthereare those who cantbe botheredwith capitolizing propernames places or usintg puntuation or spellchekerz or even speeeeeking engrish.
What can I say?

1. Marlin Mountie, I could get by pretty good with it.
2. Colt Detective Special, I think the revolver would be more reliable, although I presently carry a 9 mm auto.
3. My Dad's Colt 1903 .32 acp, he always had it close by.

Re: TAKE THE GUN POLL
Heck, neither my ears nor my eyes felt any discomfort from your post Madman. Guess I've got pretty thick skin. I hope I'm never faced with such a situation as you describe, but if I were, I have several candidates. My 30-30 trapper would do, as would my 357 Puma 92, but after recently trying Double Tap's 454 loading with a 400 grain hard cast listed at 1675 fps from a 20 inch bbl., I have really gained a new appreciation for my 454 Puma. Lotta power from a light, handy package and with all the factory loadings from cowboy action loads for plinking and small game, up to Double Tap's monster for whatever, I can't think of anything with more versatility in the rifle dept. That, along with the handgun and the Mossy 500 12 guage ought to get me by! P.S. That 400 grain load in that gun makes me wish that "ugly ole" recoil pad were a Kick Eaze or Limb Saver though!

It's not as frequent as the "I Hate OT" OT Post, but it comes up at least a couple of times a year.
FWIW, on reflection I might bump up my drilling rifle to .35 Rem (or at least .357 Max) over .357 Mag if I had no other options, but I'm not sure...

Re: TAKE THE GUN POLL
Idiot,
You make an interesting point on that choice.
With the shotgun you can also use buckshot for small game/turkey etc.Especially since a lot of them have multiple choke tubes/barrels.
I was leaning myself for my Ithaca Deerslayer, but I have two guns that are just so sentimental I have to keep them both.Though it would kill me to get rid of my deerslayer
Mine would go as follows:
1)Dads old Springfield Armory M1 garand.(I would reweld a plug in it again so its a manual action for hunting.)
2)Grandpas old Winchester single M37 12ga I grew up with on the farm for the gun inside.(no way could I get rid of that either)
3)I guess my SS 2.5" Colt Magnum carry .357 for the carry gun
Ok,I am waiting for the guy that says(Hey,I will use my Thompson Contender/Rossi/H&R/New England gun)and did I say I have 5 or 6 barrels with it

I would choose the two that are best at making the jack-booted thugs who come to take the rest of my guns fall down and stay there.
Of course, I need to test on a few to make a decision.

Re: TAKE THE GUN POLL
BEAR, BEAR, BEAR - come now. If you don't like the post, don't read it dude!
As for the guns:
Rifle for all hunting: Living where I live now and limiting myself to Deer size game: NKJ Rossi SS '92 in .357. State laws would have to let me hunt small game with a centerfire rifle.
Pistol for self protection: My S&W 60-3 Pro in .357. Matches the rifle, and has night sights.
The one for the house: Springfield 1873 Trapdoor.
If I were to only have one gun, Benelli M3 12 gauge.
If I lived in Alaska or some other state that had bigger game and large animals interested in eating me possibly then my choices would be different.
My rifle would be my original 1886 in 45-70. My pistol would be the 475 Linebaugh Freedom Arms Premier. My Cabin Gun would be my 1880's Midland sxs hammer 12 gauge.

Had to think about this one.
For hunting: Marlin LTD V, 45-70.
Self-protection handgun: Glock 22, 40 S&W.
For around the house: Marlin 1894CB, 38 Special.

Man, you guys got some awesome guns!
rjohns94,
I will tell ya what.If I talked you into selling me your Freedom Arms .475 I would dump my little Colt .357
Dont worry, I would use it for a Carry Gun(with a big smile on my face) I would be the baddest dude in my town with that cannon.
I would say, did I fire 4 or did I fire 5 rounds?? you know the rest of how that one goes.

Re: TAKE THE GUN POLL
Mine are close to Tycer's. My S&W Model 19, as it was my Dad's service revolver. If it is the last thing I own in the world, it would be that. The only reason I'd ever part with it would be to feed or obtain medical care for my wife and kids, and it again would be the last thing. After that, I'd be caring for naked but well-fed and healthy kids and a wife! As for me, I'd rather not eat than lose it...
Rifle to do it all? That would be hard. The temptation would be to keep my H&R Pioneer 750, as it was my first gun, given to me by my father. I don't shoot it much now, having a lot of other .22's I'd rather shoot, but again, it is hard to beat the sentimental value. Practicality-wise, it would probably be the Marlin Mountie as it can take .22 Shorts through LR's (giving it an edge over my Ruger 10/22's). Granted, not the best big game gun, but plenty good enough for lots of small game without destroying meat...

Re: TAKE THE GUN POLL
I hope it never comes to it but..
Marlin .30-30 because I can load it with light boolits or stoke it with it's normal load and hunt anything in my area, easy to take apart for cleaning and tough as a 2 dollar steak.
Colt SAA .357 magnum, It's been with me through thick and thin and like the .30-30 it can be loaded up or down as needed. Tough, throws lead where I ask it too and I've carried /used it enough that it's like a part of me anyway so I would feel plenty well armed enough for hunting, defending me and mine etc.
(Funny, Choosing the handgun was easy, picking the rifle was a tough choice)

One gun I already own for hunting/shooting:
1908 Marlin 1893 pistol grip take down in 30-30
One handgun for self defense carry only:
S&W 21-4 CCH 44 Special
One gun to stay in the home for sentimental reasons with no hunting but target shooting a couple times a year:
1929 Winchester M52 Pre-A target rifle

Re: TAKE THE GUN POLL
Actually, this is kinda easy. I'd choose my Marlin 336SC in .35 Remington and my Smith Model 19 in .357 magnum. I can load the same bullets in both. With those two I'd be good with anything from small game to elk or moose depending on the load. If I am allowed a .22 it would be my old Remington Nylon 66. It never jams and never needs cleaning.
Re: TAKE THE GUN POLL
My marlin 1894c .357 and my model 28 S&W highway patrolman in .357. My dads hand me down and now my sons rifle marlin 336sc in .35 rem. This is all I need in life!!
Re: TAKE THE GUN POLL
If we were only allowed to have one gun, I would be dead.
OK, it would be an 1892 45LC.

Re: TAKE THE GUN POLL
I'd have to say my .44s would be my choice. Puma carbine in .44 and either my S&W 649 or Ruger Super Blackhawk.

Re: TAKE THE GUN POLL
I figure if my grandfather could feed a family of 5 with a 22 then I can't argue the value in that. Besides, everyone has a box or two of loose 22 ammo laying around in drawers, on shelves, in shoeboxes or rolled under the kitchen fridge...so ammo will be easier to find in a pinch. And of course a rifle which shoots shorts, longs, and long rifles is pretty versatile.
So my choices are my:
9422 Winchester.
Colt 1911 in 38 Super.

Re: TAKE THE GUN POLL
Is this a question from the Obama administration?
Probably a 336 for hunting, not sure whether I'd go for the 35 Rem or the 30-30. I'm going to try and shoot them both more this summer to decide if I want to concentrate on one caliber.
For target/lap queen rifle, probably my Win 94 Legacy in .357.
Another interesting combination might be my 336 in 30-30, and my Ranger 30-30 with 24" barrel. I like that rifle quite a bit, but haven't quite resolved its hammer spring issues. If I could get it working, and have just those two, then I'd only need to load one caliber.

Re: TAKE THE GUN POLL
Always wanted a .264 Win Mag.and with that Leupold
I bet that baby drills tacks.(got a 7MM Rem Mag,300 Win Mag)
but always wanted that .264 Bet shes a beauty,
Remember when I was a kid,and always being hung up on the rifle
with the greatest performance.you know like always looking at those Remington Arms Catalogs with the trajectory charts in the back and wanting "the one"trajectory king out to 500yds.
I wasnt interested in the wildcats or the Weatherbys back then.
It had to be a Remington 700BDL or Winchester model 70 (period.)
Maybe some day I will have that .264 one?Check this article below I found on the Alberta Outdoorsmen Mag!

.264 win mag, yall ever play with that sucker on the calculators?
So i'm sure many of you have plugged away in those online ballistics calculators to see what will throw what how far and hold certain velocities/energies to how far etc.
I played with the .264 win mag with 140 gr bergers at say 3200 fps and its amazing how far that thing will stay above 2000 fps......how bout 950 yrds at 4500' elevation and 1050 yrds at 7000' elevation! Haven't plugged anything in that 'recoil' bracket that comes close (7 rem mag and 168 bergers equals 100 yrds less for both elevations). And the lack of wind drift is equally outstanding.

Re: TAKE THE GUN POLL
depends on the scenario. If it was cut and run the choice might be very different from the casual business as usual unthreatened with imminent catastrophe script.
run of the mill general outing:
Marlin 1895 GS
Ruger Redhawk .44
cut and run
Marlin 39 centennial
Ruger Redhawk .44
self defense; house gun:
45 ACP

The 264 WIN MAG is the third I've had so far in my life !madman4570 wrote: Always wanted a .264 Win Mag.and with that Leupold

The first was a Pre 64 Model 70 with a factory 26" stainless barrel . This one shot like you would not believe , but like many other things I traded it off !
Maybe 7 or 8 years ago I bought the match to the Remington I have now ! Our local dealer got a pair of these when Accusport had Remington make a special run . That other 700BDL SS shot extremely well but I was pressed for money and sold it !
The one I have now was the other that my dealer friend ordered from Accusport when he got the one I had before . And the guy I got it from bought it from our dealer friend the same day I bought mine 7 or 8 years ago . He shot it some but never hunted it . Now he has about 4 other 264's and decided he wanted the 460 S&W MAG revolver I had so we made a trade ! I got his rifle with a silver Leupold 4-12 and 40 pieces of new brass . He got my revolver , my dies and what once fired I had !
We both were pleased with the deal
