Sorry havn't posted for a while, unfortunately other things have intervened.
However, I recently purchased a 1894 SS in 44M, and I'm having heaps of fun with this rifle!
When I go to the range now, I experience feelings of guilt because I am seem to be neglecting my 45/70 1895 and my Win 94 30/30.
My question however is whether it is OK to use Rifle primers in the 44 as an alternative to Pistol primers when I reload; some components are hard to come by here.
Not a real good idea. The rifle primers are taller than pistol primers and may stand proud enough that a magazine detonation is far more likely; not likely, mind you, just MORE likely. If this is a long term scenario, you can purchase a primer pocket uniforming tool (for rifle primers) that will make the pockets deep enough for what is available. I have not tested it but I doubt there would be a problem going back to pistol primers at a later date unless you already have a shallow firing pin strike. Good luck.
Way to go Blaine, you make a suggestion and Rufus Von Dufus here goes and spills Rem Large Pistol primers all over the computer desk!
Rem LP = .135
Rem LR = .135
