A couple more 32-20 question

Post by odinohi »

The rifle I will be loading for is the Marlin 1894CL. I just ordered some of the Laser Cast 115gr bullets. What is a good powder to start with for this cast bullet. How about a starting load?
Another question, I mistakingly bought a box of Speer 60gr .312" Gold Dot bullets. I think they are a handgun bullet but I'm not sure. Can I use the Speers in the 32-20? Have any of you guys tried them? Appreciate the help! Tom

I like 2400 in the .32-20 with a Lyman 115 gr.PB bullet. Very accurate and low powered so I can shoot them in my Uberti 73.
Start with 7gr. and you can work up to a pretty hot load and still keep fine accuracy. :D

.312" is .312", try the 60s, you might as well.

I first tried titegroup and had so-so results. From some advice I received from the people here I tried 2400. I started at 7 grains and that is where I stayed. 7 grains and 115 cast lead FP shoot really good out of my Winchester 1892. It is very mild and a great plinking load. I also have some Hornady 85 grain XTP's loaded with the same load for groundhogs and fall turkey.

I have been using 4 grs. of Universal Clays with that same bullet. Good accuracy for my ageing eyes.

I use 9.5gr of 2400, with the LC bullet. This is for my 1894CL silhouette loads. Lil Gun has also had good results in the same rifle, by other shooters.

Here is the Laser Cast load data. These are low velocity loads.

I too have been using 4.0gr of Universal Clays to get about 1450fps. This has been "my load" for my Marlin1894CL since I got the first one available to my FFL.It has proven to be very accurate in my gun and is a lot of fun.
