so highly and then post xenophobic trash like this about the and right to speak.

Apparently this idea has been around since TR in 1907 and yet America has not foundered due to language diversity.

If English is so important to our culture, why hasn't it been made the official language?

I disagree that we don't like diversity - we thrive on it. And the reason we don't claim English as our official language is because many fear that it is "politically incorrect," despite efforts by many to secure the language of our Consitution - written only in English, by the way - as our national language. That euphemistic phrase, "politically correct," has been used continuously to push a socialist and religiously oppressive agenda. The "English Only" provision has indeed been on the ballot more than one time.

My wife's relatives came from Portugal and Brazil. To a one, those of her uncles and aunts who were immigrants, and their families, learned to speak English at a time when we didn't have multilingual teaching aides, varied translations on household products, and so on. They didn't go on welfare, despite several of them losing everything during the depression. My wife's father lost a farm, and spent the rest of his life as a milker - but a proud, dignified and reliable one. And he raised a fine family with a love for America. Why is it that certain nationalities are the ones who predominantly refuse to learn English, and then fly the flag of their former nation and complain about the land that furnishes them a living?

It is about attitude, accepting the values of your country of residence, and citizenship in its truest sense. And while we are at it, my wife's family, most of them served in the Armed forces in defense of our country - they still do, and they are proud of it. If that is Jingoism, then we need more of it.

If somebody doesn't care enough to learn English, then it shows a disrespect for the great country that they live in. Let's face it - English is still the universal language. There is a reason for it; and until this fine nation crumbles under the hedonistic self-centered weenies and politically correct but morally bankrupt generation that seems to be gaining on those of us who love freedom, democracy, and the Judeo-Christian values that founded this nation, we should still speak English.

Speaking of "politically correctness," my motto at the bottom of this message might change from time to time, so it bears repeating in this post:
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Ephesians 6:12.

From what I have seen in the last 15 years or so, the "cultural diversity" and "political correctness" doctrines, as pushed by many in the legal and political community really amount to cleverly constructed attacks on the principles that our Founding Fathers were trying to safeguard.

I believe in the California Constitution it states English is the official language. So what? Do you think any of the Pro WB polititions care?
