Hal Swiggett

Post by JimT »

My friend Hal Swiggett has taken his last trip. He has crossed over the Great Divide and is now with his Lord. I don't feel sorry for Hal - he is at peace. But this old world is less because of his going.

Keep the campfire burning old friend. We will be along shortly.

His hunting in Africa with the Navy Arms buffalo hunter muzzleloader is a classic of outdoor stories.
He and others of his time are greatly missed.

Caught me by surprise - I thought he had already passed on. May his family know the peace of God during this time of adjustment.

I think the first time I was aware of Hal Swigget was in the early 70's and I couldn't have been more then 10-12 at the time ! Read an article about him handgun hunting ! After that i tried to read all he wrote ! I seem to remmember him writing an article about going to Wyoming or Montana and killing a nice black bear with a 243 WIN . I think later he wrote somewhere that he did it because he was told he couldn't ! And I can certainly relate to that type of thing

My condolences to family , friends and long time readers .

Thanks for posting this info. Jim T. even if it is sad.

Hal Swiggett was another of the gun writers that I enjoyed a lot when I was younger and only had a couple of guns, a .22LR and a .30-06. Hal was one of those few writers that somehow made me feel good about what I had and not get a case of "magnumitis" that was so prevalent in the 70's. He will be missed!

He truly did write some great common sense articles.

My condolences to all of Hal's friends and family. He will be truly missed.

I never had the pleasure to meet the gentleman, but I learned a lot from his writings and I got more than a few laughs from his stories.

I don't think I'll ever forget his story about "Demonstrating West Texas Diamondbacks to city folks,"
