Hi all,
Me again on a different post. My EMF Hartford lever rifle is a 357 Mag. I understand from reading other posts that they sometimes have trouble shooting 38 spl ammo - something to do with getting caught on the ejection system. My question is, is it worthwhile shooting 38 spl ammo on the 357? are there any long term repercussion? damage? As long as they are not hot loads, is there a certain brand of ammo that is more 357 friendly when it domes to lever rifles? or is it not worth it?
If you do shoot .38 Special in your .357 Magnum be sure to really scrub out the chamber so as to get out all the gunk in the area of the chamber between where the mouth of the .38 Special case lies and the end of the chamber. The same goes for the cylinder of a .357 Magnum pistol/revolver. If you don't get the gunk out, it can harden to the point where you won't be able to chamber/load a .357 Magnum.

If it feeds your favorite .38sp ammo well... the "only" reprocussion in shooting it will be the inevetible fouling of the chamber north of the .38sp case.
That fouling might (will eventually) make chambering .357 difficult as the .357 case tries to scrape/push all of that fouling into the throat.
Clean often & well, and there should be no problems though.
