Oops, who's hunting who!

Notice the lever, I believe it's a lever, stuck barrel first in the ground next to the trunk. Not a big bear but I guess it was big enough. We all needs friends like the guy who shot the photo.

Don't know. I'd have to take the picture first, then deal with the bear. It probably made for a good fireside tale for generations. Nothing better than a photo to back up a tall tale.

Didn't the born free lady get eaten by a lion? Then again, she's in the right position for when she realizes it's there and empties her bowels.

No, but those lions did eat a few of their native staff members.

I think the woman died of natural causes and her husband was killed in a gunfight with poachers.

THAT situation is why you carry a big bore hand gun while you're hunting.

Is that what they refer too as a "compromising or compromised position"? 1886.

Kinda hard to figger that photo out. Looks sorta "staged" to me. The bear appears to possibly have been propped up against the tree. The gun "could" be a 99 Savage. :D

1st rule I was taught about bear hunting, or hunting in bear country... don't climb a tree trying to escape a bear. You might drop your rifle.

Yeah, that was my thought too - look at the bear - its legs and how its flat against the tree. Doesn't look right.

I think we have examples of early 20th- and early 21st-century photoshopping...

(I cotton to the one with the bear and the guy in proper hunting clothes. Thanks, RR7. Another good one!)

Airedaleman,
Thanks, I was trying to get it around in my mind how all that came together.

Notice the difference in Savanah where she is squating and where the lioness is standing.

Yeah, that's too easy to Photoshop. It's also why you usually see that pic titled, "African Laxative".
